I'm not terribly familiar with what brands are reputable or high-quality, so I thought it would be best to ask here. I've heard good things about Alienware, but I also know that they're rather expensive as far as things go. The price range I'm looking at is about $1,000 - $1,500. In terms of graphical capabilities, I don't need it to be able to run everything on uber-max-omg-eyemelter settings, but I"d like it to be able to run just about any game in some way.

I would recommend an Asus ROG(republic of gamers) laptop. They are pretty nice gaming machines and many models are available within your price range. I have had mine for 8 years. It's served me pretty well.

Go with Lenovo or ASUS, depend on your budget, I would get a Lenovo y50 and ASUS ROG GL551JW-DS71

I've known some people with ASUS ROG laptops with good experience, I searched and found this: http://pcgamerhome.com/gaming-laptops-under-1000/
