Have you ever felt that the last weapon in the game or over-hyped plot item just didn't catch your interest or maybe it just flat out sucked. I feel that there have been times when the supposed "best" item/plot sequence in the game has failed to be the best. For instance, in pokemon, some of the legendary pokemon just don't do it for me i.e. the ones that appear at lvl 40 when mine are clearly better when i encounter them, rendering them non-legendary. Also, in call of duty 4: why is the Mini-Uzi the last unlock-able smg and why the AK-47 is for the assault rifles? There are much better weapons that are unlocked earlier. In oblivion, i heard that Umbra was one of the best swords in the game, but i had better weapons.

Long Story Short: If the game makes such a big deal about the build-up to some "epic" weapon or "major" plot sequence, it had better live up to its reputation, because more often than not I feel let down.

Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but post if you have similar let-downs.

The Blade of Olympus from God of War. This single handedly defeated all of the titans? Because some enemies take more than one hit from it. Also, Pandora's Box. I expected a lot more than just a glorified super mushroom from "the power to kill a god," that was so powerful that it needed to be sealed in a temple on the back of Cronos as he wandered the desert.

I really did look forward to Timeshift, I really did.

It looked great! It was immersive, had a great mechanic, the graphics were slick and shiny and the gameplay videos looked brilliant.

And then..... it was a bland load of shit.

Thus, hopes dashed. Again.
This. Another thing that disappointed me was the massive cannon used to shoot down an incoming EDF fleet in Red Faction: Guerrilla. It looked like a concrete pipe with blast doors to me. And the final boss fight. C'mon, a friggin' tank?!

Personally, MGS4 was a massive letdown. It went from sneaky fun times to moo-ing robots and cyborg ninjas requiring dialysis.
What?

The experimental MIRV in Fallout 3 seems super awesome and it takes a long time to get it, but when you realize that it costs around 1500 caps to fire it once you just put it in a locker and never use it again.

The Sheen and the Sunder from Morrowind...these two weapons are hyped in the game as the only weapons that can kill the god Dagoth (the game's main boss).

The sheen is a small golden dagger and the Sunder is just a small golden mallet. There was absolutely nothing epic about their appearance at all. I was pretty pissed considering how much time I had put into the game to get that far.

I was kinda let down by Borderlands. The trailers made it look super epic, with fire guns and all sorts of crazy awesome shit like that. Then I played it, and realized that a good number of the guns weren't that spectacular.

Keening and Sunder weren't hyped like that at all; they were the tools the Dwemer Lord Kagrenac used to manipulate the Heart of Lorkhan, and they totally do.

They aren't even meant to be used as weapons.

I still was disappointed by their appearance. The dagger I got at lvl 2 was just as cool looking.

Farcry 2, It COULD of been the BEST game of 2008, with first person shooting and all.

But no, it's have unfair combat, long ass travel times and a crappy reason to replace guns.

I don't realism, I want to play a game.
We STILL didn't kill the Jackel....It was all for nothing.

Aha, I totally agree with the Pokemon thing...
The ending to Call of Duty 4...
I mean, some missiles get launched, you have an epic gunfight, hop into a jeep, have an even more epic gunfight, then you find yourself on a bridge, slow motion pistol kill, end...
What the hell???

I did think they looked sort of plain, especially Sunder. The Wraithguard looked neat, though, and it's part of that set.

The entire story with the heart was very well done.I just felt it was odd that the key items to defeating Dagoth were...so plain looking.

Bioshock was the biggest letdown I've ever enountered, especially because the begining of the game painted this fantastic scene of a true horror atmosphere, where survival was hard and scary, then it got scitzophrenic and camera shy and became an action game.

The 2nd biggest letdown was Killzone 2, since it was supposed to be a fantastic game. The controls in the single player sucked and the linear path was impossible to navigate, so I tried to go online, and it asked for my life story before not telling me anything about how to play online or what mode it asked me to do...I played 5 minutes of it and didn't have a single second of fun...

Chrono Cross, I was expecting a Godly sequel to a Godly RPG, but I got a very bland RPG, with a boring story and uninteresting characters.
