I`m a bit thick so here comes the question :

Are referring to internet cafes where we like to go and game or in-game locations that we liked ?

My favourite level is the 'Spoiler Cave' which should always be preceeded by the 'spoiler warning road'

Locations within games.

Technically it's not a spoiler as it's made clear within the first few moments of gameplay.

That is not in the 'opening moments of the game'

I was racking my brain, trying to think of my favourite in-game town to return to after a nice long adventure... but looking back, I can't think of a single village I never wanted to burn to the ground. :(

I believe that he was being metaphorical, referring to the thread as 'opening moments of the game'

...which I just lost... and so did all of you.

But I will bite. I think that one of the best has to be Rapture from Bioshock. I've always wanted to live in an underwater city so it was awesome for me, and it also destroyed all of my hopes because of how cocked up it all got the minute people moved in.

...although, it was cool being Mr. Fix-it and running around trying to fix all the problems... as if that's a new premise in a game...

The mad robotic spider things and the ancient dwarf hold they live in (in arcunum).

There are so many different memorable locations, from the Mushroom Kingdom, to the Isle'O'Hags, to City 17, to Taris (upper and lower), to Hyrule, to Sanctuary, to Azeroth, to Cyrodiil... way, way too many to count, and that doesn't even really include sub-regions and locations. Videogame geography is just as vivid and interesting for me as it is in the real world, if not more, and I certainly have a better understanding and greater nostalgia for it.

The Zone, and most importantly Newbie-ville in The Zone. That place was my favourite of all the places in the game, and my favourite overall. I did all my trading there (even though it could be a hell of a long walk sometimes). Unfortunately one day I returned, just to find the village littered with corpses, both Loners and military. I was devestated (although, not to devestated not to loot every single corpse).

GTA IV's Liberty City

Fallout 3's wilderness.

Morrowind's landscape.

I loved the above because they are not just big worlds with large gaping holes of filler. Everything has a reason for being. Such as the roads going around the mountains in Morrowind instead of over them, or the roads in Fallout 3 which I swear are based on an actual DC map (by roads I mean whats left of them).

I'll just go ahead and say every Super Mario level ever. Wacky, unrestrained fun. And banjo music sometimes!

Well, yeah. They used the actual DC layout, with some changes, in Fallout 3 (nothing that was there after 1950 or so, for example). It is condensed quite a bit, obviously, and the outlying wilderness is much bigger in proportion to the downtown, which is tiny in comparison, but it's more or less all to scale as far as the landmarks go.

Oh, and Oblivion has all those roads too. The world does tend to feel a bit empty, but it is pretty cool to realise that Cyrodiil has a very realistic road and trail system that is mapped and documented, though there are still plenty of unmarked roads to follow, often serving as shortcuts and paths to hidden locations... it's very intelligent, really. Bethesda deserve a lot of praise for the realism in their environments.

Morrowind's landscape

Spellforce 1 & 2 landscape

That awesome resort on the beach at the start of Crysis Warhead. May be linked to the fact that I haven`t been to the sea side in the last few years.

City 17 was cool but without free roam I don`t think this can go on the list.

Agreed, but I refraned from Oblivion because I feel Morrowind had a more complete world.

Fallout 3 is closer to Morrowind than Oblivion in this respect.

Winthrop's Inn in Candlekeep (Baldur's Gate). With a warm fire, kindly 'ol Firebead, and jolly Winthrop...one could just melt the stresses of being the bastard offspring of the god of murder away.

The Canals and Highway 17 of Half Life 2 were beautifal, fun, and beautifal. Right down to the sound effects and the empty, desolate lonliness of Highway 17.
