I thought Master Chief was the gamertag of a particularly elite, well-known Halo player. I'd be all, "Oh hey, you know that Masterchief guy? Tell him I said hi."

I can't come up with any examples from games I actually played much, since I was always skeptical about schoolyard video game rumours. Come to think of it, that did backfire once on me with the "No way, Missigno. isn't real, it's just a made up Pokemon like Venustoise."

I didn't know that Atlas was Frank Fontaine.

I know, how could I miss that?!

Thinking that Cranky Kong was just some random Uncle and not the actual first Donkey Kong (from the arcade)
no way. the old man kong? that makes sense.....there's one for me.
Yeah and guess who "Donkey Kong Junior" (or whatever that baby gorilla's name was in that one Donkey Kong Game) is? Yup, Donkey Kong (the now Donkey Kong)
If you're talking about Donkey Kong Country 3, it's Kiddie Kong.

Didn't know they actually had the Donkey Kongs change, I figured they were just a static character set, since we still have Diddy, Funky, and Candy unchanged, or at least to my knowledge.

Did I say Country? I meant the original Donkey Kong 3, as in the arcade home computer one, Donkey Kong (from Donkey Kong Arcade) is now Cranky Kong (it's been years so now he's old) Donkey Kong Junior (from the arcade Donkey Kong 3) is the Donkey Kong we know now (he wears a tie)

No, you didn't say country, you just said "that one donkey kong game", which isn't much to go on. Anyway, I know who you're talking about, but they didn't really come to mind, they were before my time.

For a very long time during my innocent child stage I thought Link was a girl. Only because he wore extremely long (white, nonetheless) socks that looked like lady leg-warmers.
Needless to say, I cried at the shocking discovery that my favorite hero was actually a girl. Yes, literally.
I feel ashamed.

(Come on, I was 6. 7 tops. Ok fine, maybe 10.)
ummmm Link is a guy not a girl.

Zelda is a girl
I am aware, thank you very much.

I thought Link (as well as Zelda) was a girl, because the manual showed a picture of him with leg-warmers. Hence, the gaming mess-up.

Anyone ever been driving in racing games and then realizing that you've been going in the wrong direction for like 5 minutes.

I thought Knuckles was girl when I was six or so... when I was 10 I thought Marth from SSBM was a girl, too. I think I've recently been good about understanding stuff, though. (Until I read something on this thread that blows my mind.)

Shadowman on the N64... had over the maximum dark souls in it... was intended to be 120 and actually there was something like 128, also it would prompt you to insert a rumble pack when you was done loading or saving... Cept Rumble packs dont work on it xD

One that comes to mind is forgetting I could push the washing machine of the ledge to push the thing down to bring the ramp up, took me so damn long to realise I could
