only listen to my own music when online gaming...usually just throw the entire hard drive on shuffle and have at it.

I always listen to the actual game's music. I'm a huuuge fan of game OSTs (especially Mark Morgan's, Jack Wall's, Inon Zur's and Jeremy Soule's works), and they didn't go through all that trouble for nothing. What drown out atmospheric, compelling music with pop, I say. (Not I don't enjoy pop, mind you).
The only exception would be when online gaming (because the only online game I've ever allowed myself to play is "The Realm", and its music is something out of a broken 80s synthesizer).

If the ingame audio cues aren't too important, I like to listen to what I usually listen to: industrial metal. Unfortunately this usually leaves me prone to fits of rage in which I go berserk in the game and end up dying a lot.

Usually the game music. When it comes to a hack-and-slasher like Dynasty Warriors, though, I prefer to plug in my headphones and blast some good loud punk rock.

For something moody (Mega Man, Pokemon, etc.)-- The Chameleons, Echo & The Bunnymen, Feeding Fingers

For fast-paced multiplayer (Twisted Metal, Modern Warfare, etc.)-- Manowar and Iron Maiden

The in game music usually, unless it's Sonic unleashed then I blast old school sonic music or something fast and fun.

Normally in-game audio. When I feel I need a bit of an extra edge (like when fighting bosses), I crank some heavy metal. Rob Zombie, Metallica, Disturbed, and Slipknot.

Hmmm... well, music when I game...
Well, while playing games, I tend to listen to this song:
And, of course, a selection of other songs that boost my efficiency.

I'm curious to find out what kinds of music a lot of you listen to when you game. I know that when I play Diablo or something like that, I work a lot better with music in the background. Generally, I'll listen to anything with a steady beat, but a majority of it is either classic or hard rock. What about the rest of you?
Whatever I usually have playing. Unless it's a horror game, where then I usually don't want "Yakkety Sax" playing in the background (it ruins the atmosphere). In that case I turn off the tunes so I can scare the crap out of myself.

It depends on the game. For the old school Silent Hills, I listen to the in game soundtrack, however for a game like, say, Killzone 2, I will listen to Voltaire's "When your evil" I love that song.
