Here's the deal, lately I've found myself not really enjoying playing games anymore. Or rather that I never really feel like booting up one of the many games on my dashboard. Its not that the games themselves are bad (Supcom, FC2 and GRID to name a few) but its that I just never feel like booting them up, Sometimes I can literally stare at the dashboard for more than half an hour before a msn/forum message breaks the monotony.

I've been playing games for as long as I can remember so there's no reason why I should get bored now, I usually find myself working on one of my game ideas instead. I'm still waiting for "that" one game that will bring back my interest.

By "that" game I meant the game ideas I have made real, If none else will make something similar.

Y'know, maybe it's because you've played games for so long? Novelty is a rather important thing with the gaming genre. Try messing around with indie games though, those seem interesting enough to maybe respark your interest. Look beyond big corporations to the stranger gems.

Hell no. I've been playing some of my old mega drive games, courtesy of a sweet new hand hold thing, and my god they're hard work.

50% of all the games back then would have die after making a few mistakes. And no saving.

I'm trying to play Shinobi III at the moment and the third stage is a nightmare. There's a platform going up, and you have to jump off it and up obstacles whilst fighting enemies (that knock you back). You fuck up once and that's it, life gone, start the level again!

And that's nothing compared to Shadow Dancer, bloody ninjas.

couldn't agree more. Only bought a very small number of games this year. (a rarity for me, I assure you) What's been coming out just hasn't drawn my attention like it used too, or perhaps I've been much more critical of games, I'm not sure which.
I've even dug up a good number of older games to play again.

I see you finally found a reason to your Realism fandom.
I've been doing that too, staring at my dashboard for ages. though i think my dodgy TV is a part of it.
The thing shuts off the video feed whenever it gets too bright or too fast. So flashbang grenades on CoD4 are the bane of my world. -__-"

Boy that must suck, Have you tried reducing the lightning effects? (If PC)

On the realism part there have been a great lack of them lately, I like grid from the realism/arcade combo it has but I want a realistic shooter, I miss operation flashpoint a lot... The one who calls CoD4/5 even remotely realistic/authentic deserved a "Please wake up" slap to the face.

On another note have anyone here played operation flashpoint on a vista system? I would like to know if its worth digging up the old CD.

I know what level you're talking about. I thought it was impossible until I learned all the wall jumping/roof hanging moves you can do. The roof hanging in particular makes the level a lot easier for me.

For me, it just depends. Sometimes I feel like I get into a bit of a rut with my games. It's usually a sign that I should either dust off an old classic (God Hand and FFT work quite well) or pick up a new game. Right now I've been playing a lot of Timesplitters: Future Perfect and having a lot of fun with that.

If anything, I'm going to have way too many games to play after Christmas.

It's called getting old.
Seriously, the last game I was excited about was prbably the original Halo, and that was probably because of the new Xbox we got at the time.
Slowly over the years you get used to games, you grow up, your tastes change. Not everyone loses interest in games, but for many they become a lesser priority.
Back when I was going to college etc. the question would come up (usually with computing/maths teachers) if they play games, and most of them say they just grew out though some still play but just play less.

Also I think that after playing for so long they do start just becomming more of the same for you and aren't worth the investment so much.
Probably just a phase, you'll get back into it :p

Honestly, i've no idea if it works on Vista. I'm adamantly avoiding changing my OS from XP to vista.
But either way, its worth digging out the disc and trying it. After all, if not you'll never know.

Getting old, Come on now I'm just 16 here... Well I remember saying a while back, "I will never lose interest in gaming!" Well talk about eating my own words ^^.

Go buy Edmund McMillen's collection of flash games. I've enjoyed it so far and it's only ten bucks.

Remember folks, indie games still like you! And occasionally make you vomit!

Well, normally I'd just say to try multiple genres, however, considering your example games were SupCom, FC2 and GRID, you probably already do play most. When I got bored, I went back to older games, games from around 1990-early 2000, there's a lot of really good stuff from that period that I missed, and you probably have too, especially considering you're 16. The old games I played got me back into gaming as a whole, and now I enjoy the anachronism of Ultima VII being right next to Team Fortress 2 on my desktop.

Ah, man. The 6th level is even WORSE. (I believe it was the 6th). There are rocks falling to the bottom of the screen, and you have to keep jumping up on different ones while fighting flying ninjas. Far more unforgiving than the elevator stage. Fortunately, the boss fight is really easy, and you can stay on the left rock/platform without fear of getting knocked off because there's an invisible wall right behind it.

Indeed, gaming just doesn't have the appeal it used to for me. My standards for gaming have increased dramatically. If Marvel Ultimate Alliance were to come out 5 years ago, I would have loved it. Now, I can't stand it.

But that's not the only thing I can blame. Devil May Cry 3 and 4 are to me, the best games I've ever played, and I got just both of them this Summer, having yet to get bored of either. Mega Man X Collection reeks of awesomeness as well. But when I have a lot of free time on my hands, I oddly enough spend a lot of time browsing forums and whatnot.

Even when I'm hanging out with friends, playing Brawl, I just feel like we should do something else. I'm not saying I don't want to game with my friends, I just don't want the entire time hanging with friends to be spent on games.

By yourself games arent fun anymore. I think we moved in to the generation where it's more exciting to play with someone else than play by yourself. Now with all the online gaming and things going on. In my opinion I cant name one game besides Fallout 3 that can really work being just a single player game.

My standards have always been reasonably high on account of the cost. I normally pick 4-6 of the top line games in any year. I think I'd say we're veterans rather than hardcore. Gamers to the bone but getting older and there are other priorities.

Although my mates all 'game' we all like very different things. Some love the Japanese stable of FF style games and Resi games. Some like strategy games. Some like solo-RPGs. I like shooters and I'm certainly the best of my friends at them. So we hardly ever game together, unless its the odd Heroes of Might & Magic all nighter (groan). We still crack out the Dreamcast for some party play every now and again.

This happens every once a while. Sometimes, the break can last for one year with a very low purchase rate, and very low play times. And then, one day, you catch up with some titles and boom!

That said, you've probably become more select in your choices as well.

when bored with gaming, I just find something else to do for a bit.

if I'm jsut bored of the monotony of certain types of games I go find an indy game or an old classic I haven't played in forever or even a new classic.

just gotta ignore most of the monotonous filth and play the things that look actually FUN.
