Gaming PC Build Advice

Hi guys, first post here and I'm looking for some help. I'm looking at getting a gaming pc as my laptop isn't really cutting it any more. Now I've looked around and come up with this build, if you could tell me what you think I'd appreciate it. My budget can hit up to £1250 but I'd prefer a little cheaper, so if you can see any areas I can easily trim it down that would be helpful too.

Finally I might have gone a little too far with these specifications, are they really necessary for a machine that'll probably last 5-7 years?

Your specs look pretty good, the only thing i have to say about the lasting 5-7 years is that i'm still running on my 2007 rig - q6600 and the only thing i've upgraded over the years was GPU (8800gtx->gts250 due to card death) and adding more ram (2G->8GB) when it became cheap.
just factor upgrading your graphics card in three of four years, and you'll run stuff on high or ultra for a couple of years, depending on the future of game graphics....

Thanks for the help, would you suggest buying pre-built or building it myself? And what retailers within the UK would you recommend using for parts or buying pre-built?

Do you need a Wi-Fi adapter? Cant you just use Ethernet? Much better.

As I'm moving a lot at the moment for convenience if nothing else a Wi-Fi adapter is pretty much a necessity. Eventually I'll be sorting a wired connection but for now Wi-Fi is useful.

I've come up with a second (cheaper) build, if you could glance over it I'd appreciate that as well.
