Rocket-jumping.

I must be the only person on Earth that can't figure out how the rocket-jump works.

[sub]But it would blow off your legs! Why does this even exist?![/sub]

The dearth of Australian servers for L4D and TF2- trying to play either online usually results in horrible lag and being kicked from the game. In the case of L4D, I have had, on several occasions, the level load, only to be confronted by a Vote to kick me (which always passes). That, and the fact that almost everyone I have met playing Versus (on the few occasions where lag doesn't render it unplayable) have been utter tosspots, means I mostly play Single Player.

I hate staircase campers alot, but my biggest pet peeve is people with names that are just jumbles of numbers, like "189477" or something like that. Ruins the whole point of trying to communicate in a game.

Screaming 12 year olds on multiplayer. Especially on M games. Go play legos or something for Christ's sake. Only come back when you start churning out testosterone and grow a pair.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I especially hate it when they come into my game (other than Halo) and insist I go play Halo. It also seems that all they can do is complain about dying. I had one in L4D that I rather enjoyed leaving for dead.

People who try to "argue" with you, and their technique consists mainly of yelling into the microphone so that they can't hear your argument over their own yelling.

Since I play singleplayer only (due in large part to the fact that so many MPers are complete douchebags), my pet peeves tend toward the gameplay side.

The biggest one? Games that force the player down a path. I want builders that allow me to build small and just experiment with it (<3 SimCity 4), RPGs where I can ignore the main quest (or where there IS no main quest, a la Mount&Blade), and strategy games where I can design sandboxes for myself to play around with the game mechanics (nobody, and I mean NOBODY, does this quite like Simutrans.)

An unfair camera, unfair checkpoints, getting stuck on a small little bit of scenery, cheesy story, voice acting, setting, main character, jokes. Bland graphics, unexciting missions that while cleverly disguised basically mean to go here and kill people. Playing as an unlikeable asshole. Bad music, intense fucking hype that doesn't live up to its claims, brown, depressing graphics, cliche, *Shudder* Realism, unbalanced gameplay elements, most examples of non-linearity because while alot of games pull off open world roaming very well such as the fable and fallout games with greatly varied clever environments each offering different characters and stories others do it badly making everywhere just as samey and boring as everywhere else such as prototype. I believe that a game should either tell a story through alot of PROPER cutscenes (Such as the resident evil games) or merge the story seamlessly into the gameplay (Such as half-life 2), a pet peeve of mine is when some games refuse these two good choices altogether and might have just one properly done, well animated cutscene with the rest being clunky, mistextured messes (Such as Prototype *Still a good game though*).

I used to simply ignore them, but now I go out of my way to make fun of them until they leave. Not too nice I know, but it's especially worth it when they try to talk back. Apparently "your mom" jokes are all the rage with prepubescent kids these days.
