What gaming false stereotype would you like to clear? For example I am a Halo fan. I'm not twelve years old, I'm not homophobic and my default responce to everything is NOT to call it a fag. Most Halo fans agree when I say weve had enough of being called 12 year old idiots by everyone who hasnt bothered to play Halo! So what steroetype would YOU like to clear?

That videogames are for kids. My parents drive me nuts with that one. I tell them the stat about the average age off a gamer being somewhere in the thirties, but it does not sway them.

Not all of us are fat.
Not all of us have nasal voices.
Not all of us are outcasts.
Not all of us spend all, or even most of our time gaming.
Not all of us have perfect grades.

All I can think of ATM.

Gamers are 14 years old with ridiculous acne that have no lives and will spend the rest of their lives in their parent's basement eating Cheetos.

NO. This is generalizing. That is bad.

I've played Halo. The majority are like that, sorry, but that's the cold, hard truth. I don't conform to a gamer stereotype because I play many different genres of games. Pretty much anything that isn't a sport, RTS or serious racer (Gran Turismo).

Also, I've had the same girlfriend for 7 years, I'm a tall, lithe, broad-shouldered hunk of a man, although I do wear glasses and wear stupid game related t-shirts... If by stupid I mean awesome!

We do not all wear glasses. Granted, a lot of us do, but it's by no means a universal thing.

Also, we don't all wear shirts tucked into our trousers, have braces, and have cropped hair.

Hell, people have a hard time believing I'm a gamer, I look like a stoner!
How about the stereotype that most gamers are stoners? :)

Not all of us are ugly!

For example: I'm not

[sub]Never pass up a chance to boost your ego[/sub]

In all seriousness, games are not evil! That's a gaming stereotype, and it's wrong!

Those homophobic teenage douches are a minority, fortunatly. But they're really loud, so people tend to focus on them. That's how a generalization is born.
Us normal gamers disagree, but as long as the media keeps perpetuating that stereotype, not much is gonna change the public's perception about gamers.

Huh. So gamer is ore like geek where you're at? Here it's more like stoner. Everyone assumes us gamers do drugs. I mean, sometimes.....but come on!

Girls don't game or want to game. This is also a generalization the gaming companies themselves make.

Case in point, that giant ass controller for the first Xbox. I could not hold that thing in my girlie hands.

It did make a thwack when you threw it though.

Hell, even I had trouble holding that behemoth of a controller. You could mine the planet with that thing.

Video games do not make people raving, mass-murdering sociopaths. Not all gamers want to have online multi-player modes attached to every game released. A good (i.e. 'balanced' with dedicated servers) multi-player mode is not the one deciding factor between a good and bad game.
