Gaming universes you would most certainly NOT want to be in.

MGS. A new conspiracy theory every day and crazy people can just as easily get hold of nukes as getting served for alcohol in a rough area at 16.

I think i'd really prefer NOT to be a part of the Katamari world. Being rolled up into a ball would sort of suck.

Almost any game, there are few games these days that prevent citizens from dying in the hundreds without anyone caring.
The old game son the other hand have incessant beeping music you can't escape.
Yeah, video game worlds are rarely nice places... does this say something about game designers, or is it us gamers we should be worried about?
Good stories require movement and a difficulty to be overcome. The more difficult the challenge, the better we feel when the main character over comes it. This is equally true in movies/books/video games. So don't fret overly about some of the settings. After all, if one zombie is exciting, a whole horde of them is even more exciting right?

But we could explore some other themes than war and violence, true.

I don't think that it is that they can say their names, more like, you are walking through High grass and a yellow Rat with sparks coming off of it approaches, then you go, "huh, what is that?" It's response, not because it understands you, more likely in a defensive mode, is "Pikachu!" So you go, oh, then I will call that a Pikachu. How are we doing little Pikachu?" Then you reach down to scratch it under the chin and get shocked into oblivion.
Shocked into Oblivion? That would be bad. Why is it EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING wants to kill you in Oblivion? (Okay, except for deer.)

I'd hate to be a thief in Oblivion or Thief: Deadly Shadows. What kind of thief can't put something back exactly as he/she found it???? Gah!

wouldnt like to live in the forgotten realms universe think of your chances for survival you gt dropped off any where but a city or a vast unguarded untrapped magic treasure horde and your dead, you get dropped off in a evil city and your dead, and even in the good cities you will probably be dead depending on if you are dropped off in a poor part of the city.

Warhammer 40k. That universe is just over the top with oppression and shittiness.

Or any RPG universe if I'm not a protagonist. My life would be painfully boring, standing behind a counter constantly or looping the same lines of dialogue.

Half life 2's universe, if someone hasn't already mentioned it. With my luck, I'd end up as one of the charred corpses used to subtly hint that THERE'S A NEW AND NASTY ENEMY/PARTICULARLY DEADLY TRAP AROUND THE CORNER OMGOMG OMG. Yep, that's me.

Fallout 3 Wasteland...with all the mutants and bloody deathclaws...no clean drinking water...and the odd desire to throw yourself off the top of Rivet City (or is that just me)
Me too actually. Wierd, isn't it. There's actually a side mission with a guy who wants to but can't. you can save him or kick him over the edge. I followed him down.

Silent Hill. I can handle zombies, the end of the world, aliens... but not a nightmare like that.
