I tried gaming with the boyfreind once.....

it was a FPS on a console

he laughed at how I "sucked"..I reminded him that I was used to a mouse and keyboard..he kept making fun of me

we are no longer together...and I stole his PS2

*grumble*FPS with a gamepad is stupid anyway...*grumble*
It's okay, he was wrong anyway. God intended FPS games to be played with a mouse and keyboard. ;)

ARMA 2 comes to mind. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force also comes to mind.
I laughed.

Final fantasy: crystal chronicles for the gamecube. A simplistic, made for multiplayer, hack and slash rpg with Chibi-ish charecter design. It was basically made for the sort of thing your asking.

Also fable 2 could be a fun choice. or if your into a "sims" sort of mood get her playing animal crossing, you could visit each others towns and whatnot.

Start off with a game that's easy and let her play on her own before playing with her. Otherwise, it'll be clear how much better you are and it'll discourage her.

Something that's co-op and not competitive however would work fine, like Super Mario bros for the Wii. Little Big Planet also comes to mind.

Also, you could try something new together, rather than a game you already know how to play. My girlfriend and I for example played League of Legends together when we were both still relatively new to it (luckily, she's a gamer like me, but I think my point still stands).

The most important thing though is to not get irritated or frustrated with her, and don't be a backseat gamer.

The first co-op game I ever got my girlfriend to play with me was Left 4 Dead, and if she's not a girly girl type, once she stops getting freaked out by the fast pace, she should start to like it!

Castle Crashers (XBLA) - fun and easy to comprehend but a challenge as well

Left 4 Dead 1 or 2 - zombies and great co-op

Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light (XBLA) - an incredibly good game especially for co-op. it encourages working together and collaborative problem solving but also has a bit of competitive edge to it seeing who gets more points as you work together to beat the levels. Me and my wife had a great time playing through this game although surprisingly I was Lara and she was Totec...=\
