Now there are somethings you know about games without even playing them.
For example every gamer EVERY PERSON EVER knows that the cake is a lie.
So what are some things that are relatively unknown?
My example, I've heard stories of how great deus ex is, but I've never heard a word of the plot or any spoilers ever. It's like it's so good, that there is an unspoken code that you don't ruin it for everyone else.
Which is good. I only wish that every moment of Bioshock wasn't ruined for me by the internet. Screw you various forums and my own quick reading. As for actual constructive response, uh... I don't know. I guess how awesome Psychonauts is or something.

I can't verify it myself, but there's this room in some Nintendo game...

It's a secret to everybody.
The Chris Houlihan room?

I don't really know if it counts as a secret, but I doubt many people know that Donkey Kong is actually a poor translation of Stubborn Ape.

Eh Chromehounds was a well kep secret for the xbox 360 haha. The servers were only taken down in january but about 6 months after it was released a few years ago it was like no one had heard of it. Best game I ever played on my 360.
Chromehounds was AWESOME! :D

Real underappreciated gem, one of the best mech-based games ever - if not THE best.
Well it was one of the best till that whole armour infront of face thing started happening. I'd previously used rockets and stuff but at that point I just used a four legged will as many artillery guns or sniper rifles I could find and just started blowing the crap out of anything I could from as far away as I could.

There is a Rube Goldberg machine in some random shop in Fallout 3 that is related to absolutely nothing in the game.

The single greatest gaming mystery is the legendary "STOP N SWOP" of Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie fame, of course.

Literally NOBODY could figure out what it meant, and it remains a great secret to this day...

I started that armor in front of cockpit thing LOL.

There was an easy way around it; just use heat based weapons. It's like using a really fast hound or a really long range hound.

Speaking of which, long range combat was great in that.

Probably the ending of Shadow of the Colossus. Not once had I seen it spoiled, and it was really nice to have a game ending that I didn't already know.

It's not that hard to figure out. They were starting an idea, then it got scraped and people blew it out of proportion. I don't see what the big deal is.

I believe that Polybius, allegedly, is the most secretive that a game can get in reality.
I had to look that up because I've never heard of it. Secret indeed.
Not sure if it counts though since it's in "Urban Legend" territory and it's not known if it ever existed.

Very cool that someone else has heard about it, I've made a few referances to it myself and nobody seems to get them. :)

As far as the general topic of game secrets goes, I'm not sure if there are that many anymore. Most of what would probably pass as secrets are simply a matter of something being really old.

Vagrant story on ps1: a jrpg so awesome that it can enthrall even the most ardent of jrpg haters, and make them worshippers of the long haired androgynous form.

Actually I herd Donkey Kong is a typo and was originally meant to be Monkey Kong which may have been poor Japanese translation for king kong.

Also, Id really love to know what was in that damn chest in calm town in FF7. It knaws away at my sanity still after all these years.

EDIT: ok, you can play as master hand through a glitch, not cheats.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vvFD_UZ7Fc

*ok, here is what I heard, if you have 4 controls, but one of them does not select a character, he/she becomes master hand. And since master hand needs a health bar, and you don't get one, you are invincible, just check the wiki*

on the xbox arcade versions having stop and swop things from the first game give stuff like profile pictures, and themes. The ice key also unlocks a vault, containing a glowbo you can use with humba to turn kazooie into a dragon, no joke! I guess that pretty secrative...
