I'm in south Korea at the moment and I hear the song every where I go. Now I can smirk whenever I hear the song now that I know the meaning.

Yeah, pretty much spot on. It's like when Lil Wayne tweeted and applauded a North Korean propaganda documentary highlighting how decadent and materialistic western society was. He did this without the slightest hint of irony *eyeroll*.

Viral!?!
I hadn't heard of it until today, it's actually pretty good.
The explanation is pretty useful in making sense of the video, i was very confused the first time i saw it.
It has about 60 million views. It's definitely viral.
I can see that, i'm just surprised i'm hearing about it so late.

Damn, you don't see LMFAO doing deep satire in their songs. Wow. Well, that was a nice read.
Who says we don't? Who says there not doing exactly the same thing in 'Sexy and I Know It', only directed at the shallow, self-worshiping, ostentatious chodes normally found sunning themselves on the beaches of Miami or California, who will then proceed not to realise that the joke is on them and make that tune the un-ironic soundtrack to their life, just like Psy is doing to the Gangnam crowd?

You raise a good point my fine fellow. Perhaps LMFAO are actually a satirical band like Psy. But I haven't actually seen any real indication on that. Unlike this one, which has some clear places where it's being satirical. It'll take a much more clever man than I to figure out the satirical worth of LMFAO. And until then, I just find them obnoxious.

I must admit it's hard to believe a video with moments such as

has a particularly big reason for it besides fucking about, but there you go, learn something new every day.
I agree... But then again, I quoted this so I can easily jump to images whilst on le tumblr :3

That was a really good read. I did catch a little bit of the mocking of the rich guy swagger. Reading the translated lyrics didn't really clue me into how coffee is such a luxury there though.

And, of course, I had to listen to it again.

No, seriously, first time I saw this video I was drinking some Dr. Pepper. A friend of mine had linked the video to me and said it was pretty goofy. So I'm watching it, getting a kick out of it, but what made Dr. Pepper rocket out of my nose as I almost died choking and laughing, was the part where the elevator doors open up to show him laying on the floor singing with a "strangely happy" guy wearing a cowboy hat and underpants doing a hump-dance while standing over him.

As for the 'meaning'

-'"Human society is so hollow, and even while filming I felt pathetic. Each frame by frame was hollow," he sighs, apparently deadly serious. It's a jarring moment to see the musician drop his clownish demeanor and reveal the darker feelings behind this lighthearted-seeming song. Although, Hong noted, "hollow" doesn't capture it: "It's a word that's a mixture or shallow or hollow or vain," he explained. Kim seemed to feel the same way about the video, though it's so cheery on the surface. "He was satirizing more than just this one neighborhood," she told me. On her blog, she suggested the video portrayed the Gangnam area, a symbol of South Korea's national aspirations for prosperity and status, as "nothing but materialistic and about people who are chasing rainbows." Pretty heavy for a viral pop hit.'-
Soooooooo basically Gangnam is the South Korean LA? Got it.

...your kidding, right? Do you think Taiwan is communist, too? lol.

Sober Thal said:
Yeah, no.

Sorry, but even with her voice being less annoying here, a pelvic thrusting hood rat isn't sexy at all for me. It's just trashy in my eye. Plus, she doesn't have red hair here.
You mean like this?

;P

I think I'll go back to my SDN48 for my pop idol fandom

I think this video speaks more of the pain that culture can inflict on the peoples... while still being hot as hell and catchy.

Did I mention I'm a shallow SOB? :p
..lol..what?
Can't say that I care for "soft-porn stars" [http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Showbiz/Story/A1Story20120221-329310.html] trying to be singers.

I rather prefer something "classy", like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihoDUCVA2Ps].
