I would say Contemporary RnB/Hip Hop rather than "Gangsta Rap". I absolutely agree with you, even as someone who's not a massive Hip Hop fan, it's far more influential than people give it credit for.

Yeah, but the mid 90s, naughties, and tenties has given us fuck all. It's not much of a competition.

People piss and moan about how cheesy the 80s and early 90s were, but fuck them. At least they gave us something. Even if some of it was mindless dribble like A-ha....

EDM, Auto-Tune, Britpop, Indie music, Grunge, the Garage Rock Revival...dismissing thirty years of music like that is pretty close-minded of you.
