I have only read the Keys to the Kingdom series and the Seventh Tower series but I found his writing ok. The first books always drew me in but they kinda trundled off down some tangent that was a bit...meh. He also takes forever just to write one book. This may come from the fact that he writes them, then doesn't feel like doing the editing process and goes off to write short stories.

I am a huuuuge fan of Garth Nix and I have read all of his books, bar the ones designed for babies/toddlers/younger then...7? Anyway.

I was just wondering if there were any other fans of his roaming around the Escapist and, if so:
what's your favourite book of his?
What's your favourite part of a book?
Are you psyched about the potential for Sabriel to become a film?
Out of the stories, would you make any of them a game?

WOAH NOW! SABRIEL IS BEING MADE INTO A MOVIE?! SWEETNESS!!!!!!!!

My favorite book is Abhorsen, hands down. Ut brin gs the Old Kingdom trilogy to a great closing, and my favorite part happens to be in this book. The binding of Orranis was the most epic scene I've read in a long, long time. Especially because Mogget becomes unbound and actually helps the abhorsen! Holy crap what a twist.

And I'd make the old kingdom trilogy into games. They deserve it. They just need the right developer. Bethesda would be pretty good.

The Abhorsen trilogy and Shade's Children are my favorite Garth Nix books.
The Abhorsen trilogy is actually one of my favorite series.

Haven't read all of his stuff, but I've read up to Thursday on the Keys of the Kingdom series. But my favorite book of his is definitely Shade's Children, probably the best book I've ever read. It would also be a fantastic story-line for a game.. And anyone that's read the book would agree with me.

Yeah, Shade's Children is probably my second favorite of his books. And you're right, it would make a great stealth game.

I loved the Old Kingdom series, couldn't choose a favourite though, mainly because it's been so long since I read them. As soon as I'm done with exams I'd love to re-read them.

Can't wait for the next two he says he's writing

Yeah, that scene was great. One of the few times I've ever gone back to a book to read a specific scene (unless someone asked me something that I had to go back to find out). As you can see by my user name, it left an impression (although I kind of regret not choosing Yrael (mogget's real name) instead of Orannis).

I've only read Sabriel and Shades Children at the moment...

The only author I can think of who better traumatizes children would be Phillip Reeve with the Hungry City Chronicles.

I know what you mean, I started reading his stuff when I was pretty young, and had to stop reading Sabriel for several months during the scene in the reservoir.
