Allow me to preface this by saying I actually kind of like the Halo games. I'm not crazy about them, they won't be appearing in any 'favourite game' posts, but I did have plenty of alien-blasting fun with them, especially Reach.

So when I heard that Microsoft and 343 were saying, "Screw you Hollywood, we'll make our own Halo movie thing with a $5m-$10m budget [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/118406-Live-Action-Halo-Dawns-This-October]", I was actually kind of intrigued. I wouldn't say I was optimistic because, well... video game movie. However, I was at the very least vaguely interested to see what kind of beast would emerge.

A few minutes ago I stumbled across this trailer.

I shall let it speak for itself.

...

Yeah... my interest has been stabbed through the heart with a sharpened stake of solid cliche.

Who's the female actor who kisses the guy? I recognise her from something.

Wasn't mind blowing, but might be worth a watch.

Hhahahahaahahhhahahahaha not really bashing it, but the Marine's helmets look so silly in real life!

It doesn't even look like a so-bad-it-is-good movie. It just looks boring. I'll pass unless it turns out to be spectacularly bad.

I thought that looked pretty awesome. Although I has always thought it would have been about the Spartans training while they where growing up rather than be about some marines but it looks like it won't take away too much from it. I look forward to more Halo.

Looks like a much less fun Starship Troopers.
My sentiment exactly. At least Verhoeven had the nerve and skill to create a satire of the movie genre and book that the film was made in and inspired by. The training scenes in Starship Troopers worked because they were subtly telling the audience how awful the entire thing was, I doubt a movie based on Halo will have anything even close to resembling that nuance.

As a Halo fan I cant say that I was as giddy as other people but at the same time I cant really say I hated it.
However it will be interesting to watch even if your not a fan of the series because if its successful you can bet other publishers might actually try to do a live action series with their IP.(nudge nudge *valve*)

I was never a huge fan of the Halo series, but I did have a good time with all of them. Like the OP said, I really liked Reach. This...this just made me leak brain out of every orifice I have.

I... don't see what was so bad about it? Is it planning on being a full theatrical release or a straight-to-DVD thing? If the former, then I can see the... "issues" I guess, but if it's the latter then at the very least it looks miles better than all of those countless Sci-Fi Original Movies.

this. especially on the dragonball and airbender part.

Honestly for being a machinima adaptation, it doesn't seem awful.

but i guess we'll see in the coming months, i'm sure i'll check it out sometime when it comes out, but i won't be countin down the days or anything.

it's going to be a web series by machinima, it'll come out weekly i think until halo 4 is released, starting probably in september? not sure.

Yeah, have to agree with most people here: not terrible, exactly, just absolutely bland and disinteresting.

Also, no mention of how they retconned the whole lost in space bit at the end of Halo 3.
Considering it's called "Forward Unto Dawn" I doubt it's been retconned. At a guess I'd say they're being attacked by whatever MC encountered in the Wake Up John trailer. Some reason that would have been a waste of his 40 second appearance to explain in the trailer in any case.

Have to agree though, will check it out, but it doesn't look particularly stunning.

... then I really don't see why it's worthy of being laughed at. Maybe I'm just not understanding what it actually is, but it doesn't seem that bad to me just based purely off of this trailer.

just so people know this isnt an actual movie, its just a small web series they'll put out before the game ships

il probably watch it when it comes out but i doubt it will be that good (not terrible) but most likely not good
if im going to say anything about it though, why did they higher almost exclusively young actors? more often than not youl get people of all ages (except obviously really young or really old) in training for the military

but it also looks kinda cliche (i say kinds but i mean really) what weve seen so far is the young soldier who doesnt always follow orders but will mostly likely take command for some reason by vitue of his cheek bones and lead his squad using unconventional tactics which the military will come to value (none of the senior commanders able to come up with them for some reason) he becomes a hero and in the process learns about responsibility and a gets with the girl

oh sorry spoilers to anyone whos and idiot
