And with that, I'm going to lunch.
So I hate to belabor this point, but by your logic, it's perfectly acceptable to go into a black neighborhood and start tossing around the N-word? And they should just accept you for "who you are"?

Right. Your logic isn't broken or flawed at all.
Acceptable to some, but not others, which has been my point this entire time. You'd see some black people get angry, and some shrug it off. Kinda like in this thread.

My logic isn't the same as yours. So to you, it's automatically flawed. I don't give a shit, though. I don't care about what you think of me, or my logic. I really don't.

You don't get to decide what's globally acceptable. You get to decide what you find acceptable for yourself, and what you don't. Deal with it and move on.

Of course you do, or you wouldn't keep arguing.

I don't care about what you think, I was trying to get you to realize that what you think is acceptable doesn't apply to everyone. Obviously that's a lost cause so I'm not going any further with it.

Don't start trolling just because you've run out of things to say.

I don't want to drag this discussion on and on but you just don't seem to get my point.
gay used to be a word used to describe lighthearted and joyful people. Homosexuals took that word from them. Now homosexuals have that word taken away from them and they're not happy about that. Well homosexuals ,get a new word to put on your tight pink tank-tops. Gay wasn't your word in the first place
The lighthearted and joyful people were probably gay. Part of that lightheartedness and joyfulness was being carefree. Like not having children, or husbands/wives.

It's my personal opinion that I absolutely hate and loathe those gay parade types that are all feminine and grab/kiss eachother in public.
Really? You're going to complain about a bit of physical intimacy between members of the same sex on the few occasions of the year, that take place in a pretty small area? Come on! You don't hear me complaining about all the opposite-sex kissing and grabbing that happens all the time in the street, in so many movies, in television shows, in advertising, in videogames etc. Come on.

I do have problems with people acting like fags.
Deal with it. Some gay guys are going to be effeminate. Some straight guys are going to be overly macho, quasi-Neanderthals. Seriously, deal with it.

Really? you're going to argue that using the term "Gay" to describe something negative shouldn't be seen as offensive to the gay community?

That's actually sad bordering on pathetic.

I'm only really playing Devil's Advocate here, but you could say that the word 'bastard' has evolved from its old meaning to an insult, and I don't think many bastards would take offence to that. Maybe that's what's happening here?

Right.. I don't get it either... How many people got their nuts in a twist when South Park did an entire episode on this?
I'm a gay gamer; the term 'gay' doesn't mean a thing to me. I use it all the time either while gaming of just talking to of people in the community.
You wanna be pissed that people are using it, great go ahead, let's make one thing perfectly clear though; not everyone who's LBGT cares or will get their collective tits in a knots over it.

SIDE NOTE: For everyone who brings up an 'us and them' argument. All it will ever do is create a larger rift and make the those who spark it look like fuck nuggets who can't walk down the street without feeling someone, somewhere is offending them right now...

Grow the fuck up and chill the fuck out

There is a certain argument for common usage combined with social change making a term less offensive.
"Getting Gyped" or "Being Vandalized" aren't particularly problematic anymore because there aren't really any Gypsies or Invading Germanic tribes anymore.

(by all rights there are still Gypsy communities but they're fairly rare and as far as I'm aware don't identify themselves as such.)

But anyway, let's use the Bastard example. The textbook definition of a bastard is a child born out of wedlock. For a long time it was seen as an indication of poor moral fiber and the cause of undesirable personality traits. It's the reason why a lot of classic literary villains were bastard sons. That idea evolved into the idea that someone who acts in a certain way is acting like a bastard. The usage has evolved and changed with the social stigma behind birth and wedlock but the negativity of the term has not.

The problem is that a fairly large segment of the community still sees Homosexuals with unrelenting negativity much in the same way that Bastards were once seen. Until that social stigma is eliminated using the term "Gay" as a blanket statement of negativity is still a big problem.

It's the same reason nobody in their right mind should refer to being on the receiving end of an unfair deal as "being Jewed".

Could it be that he was referring to Gears of War which is one long homoerotic innuendo machine?

GoW2's achievements alone belonged in a Carry On film, surely the chap from Gay gamer is being prejudiced as through his statements he is clearly stating that he does not think homosexuals are capable of being Space Marines.

We should boycott this anti gay facist!

When there are so-called sandbox games that STILL only allow you to court someone of the opposite sex then yeah, actually, that affects you specifically as a gay gamer. Maybe I'm slicing the pie wedge just a bit thinner by patronizing a site that deals with issues that come up as a gamer but there's specific issues that come up when you're gay still. Is that stupid? Yes. Shouldn't it be different? Yes. But until it is, there's my site for people like me to talk about things that are applicable to me.
I don't really understand the problem with only "courting" (love that word) someone of the opposite sex. It's not as if it's real - I played a female elf mage in Dragon Age: Origins and you'd better believe I jumped every bone I could (only for the achievements, of course. Ahem.) and it didn't bother me because my character is not me. My character was a straight female, so she got banged by dudes. Multiple dudes, IIRC, until Alistair got all pissy about it. Little ***** that he is.

I see this much the same way I see the complaints from black people that they invariably end up playing white characters; does it matter? Why can't we just enjoy the game without stressing about what colour our character is or who they like to fuck?
You're right. I'm making a big deal out of wanting to have a character I can identify with to play. How silly of me to want that.

You should go back and look at all the whining people in a custom game created here on The Escapist wherein it turns out you were playing as a gay man. The poor programmer was flamed back to the Stone Age by people who found that they hated playing as a gay character and felt 'forced'. The article was in last year's all-gay issue.

Calling them "Gay Space marines" was totally un-necessary. Whatever basement-dwelling douchebag started using as a synonym for bad really just needs to contract a horrible illness.
