Word on the street is that Gearbox is considering a switch to the new CryEngine in order to make sure the game is up to speed with the latest technology.
Seriously? Wow, they've been down that road with virtually every major engine since Quake 1.Andy Chalk said:Word on the street is that Gearbox is considering a switch to the new CryEngine in order to make sure the game is up to speed with the latest technology.
Seems pointless to me. Why fix what isn't - I assume - broken? DNF has been in development for, arguably, too long. Gearbox have sunk money and time into it rather than other products, ones which are perhaps more deserving (At this point, anyway) of those resources. Changing engine this late in the game would be ridiculous.Andy Chalk said:Word on the street is that Gearbox is considering a switch to the new CryEngine in order to make sure the game is up to speed with the latest technology.
It's obviously a joke considering how close they are to release and that a new engine was the supposed reason for previous delays.maantren said:Seriously? P.S. Ubisoft Montreal's Dunia engine > CryEngine.
The problem is that by holding on to your release date, you lose out on marketing (the mags and blogs have nothing to report besides "it's coming!" so they are less likely to report at all) and pre-orders (people will say "well, it could be next year for all I know, so I'll pre-order Crysis 2 instead") and so on.mjc0961 said:This is why you should just keep your release date to yourself until the game goes gold.
Yes, you'll still be disappointed that you didn't make your intended mark for having the game finished and our the door. But you won't have to stand up and apologize to legions of disappointed fans on top of that if you don't toss out release dates when you aren't 100% sure you can make them.
This is just plain mean >=(Andy Chalk said:Word on the street is that Gearbox is considering a switch to the new CryEngine in order to make sure the game is up to speed with the latest technology.
Thank you oh so much for that. That was funny.The_root_of_all_evil said:You wouldn't accuse Duke of coming prematurely, would you?
