So I know there are people here that play Gears, as I see it mentioned here and there, but I've hardly ever seen a Gears of War thread going on or some genuine discussion coming from it.

I'm curious about what everyone thinks of the new Gears 2 DLC (Dark Corners/All Fronts). Campaign or multiplayer - doesn't matter. I just wanna start some discussion here, without a flame war going on.

Personally, I thought the "deleted scene" was a bit shorter than they had lead me to believe. EPIC was saying it was gonna be around the length of a normal act, but that wasn't the case. Playing through it both ways (stealth and guns-blazing) kind of added to the length, but that was about it. It was fun, but only for a small amount of time. I didn't get the All Fronts pack because I already had all the other map packs. I just needed the Dark Corners maps and this is where the pack shines. The dark corners pack, in my opinion, is by far the best map pack out of them all (the others being Snowblind, Combustible and Flashback).

So go at it - if anything, I really just want to read what you all think.

You pretty much summed it up for me - the stealth sectiona were fun, if a little irritating - I'm glad they cut it. Whilst the maps themselves are fantastic, I can;'t find a bad map out of the seven.

Yeah I think that all of the map packs were good, but this is better, probably because it has seven maps instead of 4 or 5.

Only 2 people? Maybe I was mistaken in my assumption that more people here played. Everything is being overshadowed by Fallout threads I guess. (edited note: I like fallout btw, but that's straying from the point of this thread)

I like the Dark Corners maps. They're a lot of fun. And, now that I've got all the map packs I can finally play in the "Horde on map packs" playlist!

Don't forget the Halo and Call of Duty threads!

The problem with "Horde on map packs" is the whole voting thing though. For example, if you want the achievements for playing waves 1-50 on Nowhere, you have to assume you're gonna get lucky and that Nowhere will be a map to vote for. Best to just get 5 friends who are up to it on private

Well, yeah, but that's a problem in all playlists. You never know if you'll get what you want, that's the problem with a vote.
But I agree it's much better to just get together with four other guys and set up a private match, but unfortunately so far the maximum number of LIVE friends I managed to get to play GoW2 with me is two. It might be because I don't exactly make many friends in Gears... people in that game are generally huge assholes, even by Xbox LIVE standards.

I really enjoy the dark corners map packs. For Horde mode there are a couple that seem like they will be damn near impossible (ie. All Father's Garden and Memorial) without a group of four or five. I agree that the deleted scene was a tad short but enjoyable none the less. I'm just glad this is a game that keeps me coming back a year later.

I'm planning on getting the All Fronts collection soon, seeing as I didn't buy the other map packs and this is basically Dark Corners with the other three map packs for 400 points extra.
Although....that does seem like it's screwing over the faithful fans who bought the map packs when they came out. If they bought Flashback...that's 800+800+800+1200, which ends up being 3600 points, over double that of All Fronts.
Dark Corners seems to be a much better value than the other packs though. This one is an extra act, plus seven maps for 400 points more than the others, which cost 800 for 3-4 maps and no act. Hmm. :\

You summed up my thoughts rather well. I do really enjoy the new map packs. The pack is the best one yet. And if you need Gears friends, I am DethKlown 123

Meh. I know a lot of people on the Gears forums threw a fit over the whole "getting screwed outta points" thing, but I don't look at it like that. The people that pay for it now are kind of rewarded for waiting, while the people that bought the other packs right when they came out, like me, can be seen as paying to have it earlier.

Exactly, I fail to see how those that paid when the original map packs came out are being "ripped off"; if you honestly didn't think the prices would be decreased, well you should really start taking note of the prices on XBL. Microsoft should be praised for allowing more people to play the maps, rather than scorned for horrifically giving gamers a good deal...

I have the flashback and combustible map packs and was thinking about getting dark corners. From what I've heard on this thread it seems like a good thing to buy. Maybe I'll get it next time I get points

Dont forget about Snowblind pack.

I've been debating if I should get them or not. For some reason I've been reluctant to get fully stuck into GoW2 multiplayer.

I haven't played Gears 2 in a while mainly because My Xbox 360 got the red rings, but I need to know, can you still not exit online games once you've started them?

Because that right there was the thing I hated most about Gears 2's multiplayer.

Wouldn't know because I haven't ever purposefully tried to quit a match. I hate quitters, but I'll check for you when I get home today to see. I'd assume that even the newest title update wouldn't change that, as everyone hates a quitter, but who knows. Now if someone quits, it replaces them with a skilled bot thanks to the update, so it might let you leave.

The campaign addition was everything I expected to get out of a deleted scene. Nothing earth-shattering but it was fun to play through.

The new multiplayer maps seem above average. Had a lot of fun in a short space of time while playing them but I cant tell if it's lasting quialty or just the new shine that impresses me.
