Okay, so recently I was conversing with someone about the upcoming Gears of War 3. As the conversation moved from past games in the series to the new one, he started to rabble on about how the new game will focus on the events of Aspho Fields during the Pendulum Wars - which makes complete sense given the Locust are visible in the previews for Gears 3, oh yes - and the bearded guy in the trailer wasn't in fact Dominic, but 'his brother Carlo'. I didn't bother to correct him that it's Carlos.
I'm relatively sure he's not seen any of the recent footage regarding the game, nor even bothered to go any reliable sources for his information. Probably making it up or heard it from an illegitimate source. Like a friend who likes to make this stuff up to sound cool and knowledgeable about the subject. Or maybe he is that person, I don't know.

I tried to correct him, but he'd have none of it, for reasons unbeknownst to me.

Stubborn, bah.

And that brings me to my point in creating this thread; have you, my fellow forumgoers, ever experienced anything like this? Anyone who is so outlandishly wrong about a game, likely one they haven't played, or an upcoming title?

I wish to hear your tales!

P.S.: I heard Prototype 2 is coming out in November, and it will be set in Las Vegas, and it will have multiplayer, and gambling mini-games, and The Incredible Hulk will be an unlockable character to play as!
P.P.S.: If you wish to expand the discussion to other areas than videogames, go ahead.

Points taken off for a topic based on ridicule.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and no one will really find out until the game is released.

"You will win the battle for the the planet in Halo:Reach"
- Seriously? Do yo really have such litle knowledge of the game you claim is you favourite series?

"Xbox games are worse because the PS3 is younger and costs more."
- I'm neutral on the whole console war (I have a 360 only because I can't afford a PS3) but really? How ignorant can someone get to base their facts only on age and price?

Rant Over.

I thought it was pretty well established by this point that the game will be set after the previous two. There comes a point where facts tend to debunk fantasy, just saying. If Epic decides to make prequels or spin-offs later on, then it's fine to speculate on that, but it seems like the coming sequel will wrap up the current trilogy in expected form.

I recently got into an argument with someone on this site about Bioware's SW:TOR. It started out with him stated that the game couldn't be balanced because the Jedi classes should be overpowered. I told him that Bioware were setting the game in a time when Jedi were common and they weren't all demigods, thousands of years before the movies. I'm not quite sure why that wasn't the end of it but he then went on to insist that SW:TOR took place just before the movies.

At this point I just took all the rubbish he was spewing out and posted it on the SW:TOR forums where we preceeded to laugh at him wholeheartily

indeed it has been established..in the preview write-up in game informer magazine it was revealed that the game begins in a human colony forced to exist on the decks of a ship because of the sinking of the major cities, government has collapsed, and in the aftermath of the first two games mankind is struggling just to survive

I try not to get involved in those arguments these days because before when I would look it up and found the truth they'd reply with "Your still going on about that? God just let it go..." even if its only an hour later.

Arguing over the plot over gears of war is kind of pointless since there's very little of it and it doesn't make a lot of sense. Example - that skinny blond female intelligence officer is suddenly a big tough gear with a different voice

But on topic - someone saying "the force unleashed on wii will be a lot better because it will have precise lightsaber controls"

I've had people quote incorrect stuff at me from Yahtzee reviews before now. It isn't usually worth the effort of correcting them.
