I have heard mixed opinions about the Sawed-Off. On one hand its supposed to be powerful, lets face it its a double barreled shotgun. On the other hand it apparently takes almost no skill or aiming to use and is almost always an instant-kill weapon. Now I have killed with it before and every time I felt a little cheaper for doing it, when I kill I like the satisfaction of chasing down my enemy, gunning him down and executing him. Do you think it was a good addition or a horrible mistake putting this weapon in Versus?

All I know is that one-shot blind-firing people around corners with the sod-off is utterly hilarious.

Fun when used against other people, pain in the butt when used against you.

Pretty much the reason I decided never to play Gears 3 multiplayer again after I gave it a shot. Never really had much of a thing for Gears of War, though, so eh.

It along with the Retro Lancer keeps the Gnasher happy assholes away. They keep their distance when you're packing either.

It's a scrubby weapon. It's basically a one off for people to run into the enemy, get the shot off, get the kill, and then get gunned down by the rest of the enemy team because they rushed in without thinking, without using cover, and without the ability to retreat and reload.

The vast majority of the time, the person using the sawn off shotgun gets killed immediately after firing it, so even if they get the kill, they're still only going neural, so it really doesn't help them or the team.

It makes a great ambush weapon, but unless you're quick, accurate, and lucky, chances are you'll be dead before you even reload, if you even get that far. My brother uses it all the time, and he says that it takes less skill to use(get a single kill), but a lot more to master(like stay alive after firing, getting a multi-kill, etc.) Personally, I suck with it, as I can never get close enough, so I stick with popping heads with the Gnasher.

I've killed so many guys who shot me with it but wern't close enough to get a kill, then had to suffer from that 5 second reload time. The Gnasher is just a far Superior Weapon. The only thing the Sawed-off has on the Gnasher is that it can kill multiple enemies in one shot. Which raises the question: if it's a double Barrel, Why only one shot?

I think it is fairly balanced.
It will make Chop Suey of anyone caught in front of it, but has the functional length of my penis and takes about the same time to reload. Anyone decent at roll-dodging will avoid getting hit and then make you pay in spades.

Pretty much this, Gears 2 was a boring shotgun war, no matter the skills needed to use the damn thing. MP need variety when it comes to guns and their usage, and now there is variety thanks to Retro and the Sawed-off.

Yeah this, it pisses me right off let me tell you, and doubly so when I can't seem to get the hang of the damn thing.

Shootouts in Gears 3 always devolve into shotgun-fests so that whole execution part doesn't work when people are blowing each other away five times every ten seconds or so.

Sawed-Offs are different to double barreled shotguns. Two barrels + one shot = everything immediately in front of you turned to mince-meat.

I use it plenty, and if you can get into the habit of getting within deadly range without dying, score perfect reloads, always get a kill without pulling the left trigger to aim and take advantage of people traveling in groups to get multiple kills with one shot then using the sawed-off becomes second nature.

I know a lot of people get uptight about the sawed-off, but as far as I can see it's a balanced weapon. If somebody kills you with it, it means they took the risk of getting right up in your face - and in that case they could have insta-killed you with a grenade tag or Lancer chainsaw anyway.

It's not my favourite weapon but it has its uses. For example, it gives the COG team a fighting chance against all the Boomer variants in Horde mode.
