With Gears of War 2 coming out in only two days, I thought a topic on it would be good.

What I wanted to talk about is why, everytime I ask someone about the game, it leads to
"That game is going to be so amazing."
or
"Fuck that piece of crap."
I have never heard of any middle ground.
And now I wanna know
What's your opinion?

Meh, I didn't think the first was too impressive, and it's going to take something other than taking cover...

... wait for it...

... behind a PERSON *gasps, clapping, cheering, balloons and confetti fall from the sky* ...

... is going to change that opinion. I hope that the ability to take a live hostage for a shield isn't the only thing being added to the core gameplay...

*enjoys ellipses*

Well....you might be a little dissapointed on that one.
The core gameplay does have a few, but small, changes to it.
The main being stopping power(everytime you get hit during movement you slow down)
Also they made weapons stronger and took away a little health. To take away the whole "run n gun" idea.
But mainly gameplay is the same.

I for one look forward to it, but I think I can wait for some time, when the prices are lower, and I may actually find a copy without having to pre-order. Oh, and examinations, can't forget examinations (trust me, I've tried ;)).

The only people who enjoy Gears of War are fascists and serial killers. It's the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the industry in the 21st century. Absolute macho neanderthal garbage which aims for the lowest common denominator and arguably fails to achieve it. I don't see how anyone with a brain and/or identifiable human characteristics could possibly enjoy it. My dislike of it has nothing to do with fans, consoles, Microsoft, capitalism or even my noisy next door neighbor, I just despise everything it is, everything it strives for and everything it stands for. It's like the developers got drunk, watched Starship Troopers and didn't even realise that it was supposed to be satirical. Most of the time I appreciate next-gen gaming at the possibilities it has to offer but, every once in a while, I think of Gears of War and wonder if we might have been better off sticking with Pacman and Pong. It is to interactive entertainment what SWAP.avi is to the internet. Therefore I would rather die than experience the sequel.

^ my opinion
That is an interesting thought, but isn't it a game? That is just so that people can even for a momment live a pretend life of glory. Also, a large majority of video games are violent, so do you have this opinion of them to?

What KneeLord said. The first GoW wasn't really my scene; a whole lot of one-dimensional fun, but a renter, not a keeper. Why they bother with a 'story' for games like this is beyond me.

I'm so pissed off right now.

I wrote and rewrote a very verbose reply to this thread, but both times I accidentally hit the frickin' backspace key and everything disappeared.

I'll just say, "I think this game will be pretty cool, my mates and I are going to have a blast on multiplayer, but we're not going to expect that much from the story and I hope that the larger variety of Locusts and weapons will make up for it."

There.

Just out of curiosity, what games do you like? If the violence is a problem for you, does it apply to all medias? You are a frequent poster, so I know you are not a troll and I am assuming you are a gamer. I'm not saying there aren't plenty of games that are non-violent, but most have some form of violence. I agree that Gears is 'over the top' when it comes to violence, but I do find it very fun and entertaining. I'm not trying to flame you in any way, just wanted to point out that most games have a measure of voilence in them. The only criticism I will say to you is the "I'd reather die" comment, a little extremist, unless you would die via chainsaw beonette.

I look to the new game with very little hope that the core gameplay has made innovation. The first gears was good, but not outstanding. The story is fairly open ended in places and the dialogue was ridiculous. This is what made gears fun. The terrible one liner naming the Cole "train" will always make me laugh. All I expect from the next one is the game play that was fun from the first, a better balancing act with weapons, and more of those terrible dialogue moments.

The first Gears of War is one of the most boring, repetitive games I have ever played in my life. The graphics were good and all, but the gameplay was so criminally boring that I couldn't stand playing past the second campaign. I'm going to agree with Harhol on this one.
