Gears Of War was almost a flawless game. It had massive amounts of gore, great graphics, and was incredibly satisfying. The weapons of Gears Of War were well designed and each had its own unique feel. It was a great game except for one problem: the online lag was unbareable(probably spelt wrong).

Well now Gears 2 is out and it is still pretty good. All of your favorite weapons are back including the brutal chainsaw gun, also known as the Lancer. Campaign follows the same story and has all of the same characters (EVEN CARMINE!!!). AI is pretty solid and they won't just pop out of cover to get their torso split in half, actually, some will. This time around around there is even MORE GORE, which is pretty awesome. The boss fights in the game are original and creative. But the best part is definitely the level design. Yes all levels include the lever pulling and button pressing repitition that you would get from most games, but all of the levels have there own unique feels and dangers. These dangers range from hail to drowning in blood inside of a giant worm. Online play is fun and addicting when playing with friends and even more fun when playing someone you hate. But only when that person is on the other team and you turn around the corner and blow their body parts in eight different directions.

Now to get to the unexpectedly high amount of problems. Lets start small. Campaign is good, but it still lacks the big hectic firefights that you would expect from an extremely violent game. Also in the campaign, the parts where you ride on "vehicles" like the brumak and reaver, you generally get bored by repitition especially on the reaver. Now lets get to the HUGE problems.

Online
The only single problem Epic Games needed to fix was the laggy online, but no, they basically said "Fuck that lets make some money". As a result this online is horrific. Just because the host's connection sucks, everyone in the game will be stuck in their spawn, constantly trying to get out of their spawn while constantly teleporting farther and farther back. Another problem: THE CHAINSAW. Beware of noobs in this game because even though you kick ass rolling around and blowing peoples faces off, someone will try to chainsaw you. In the first Gears Of War, you had to wait a second or two for your chainsaw to rev up, but in the sequel chainsaws will rev up in the blink of an eye. Therefore your body will end up being split in half by a noob about 50% of the time, no matter how many people you just exploded in your total rampage of awsome. Which brings me to my next point: just because you go on a total rampage of awesome , it doesn't mean your good, it could mean your the host. If the host has good connection than they will be able to run through your team's barrage of missiles and shotgun shells while blowing everyone's faces off.

Argh. CAPITALS aren't a good idea in a review. Just try putting it in italics or bold.

Does it sound to anyone else like he's just annoyed because he's shit at the multiplayer now?

You're main issue with the game is the lag online but then you say Gears of War 1 was way better with no justification even though Gears 1 was just as laggy at times. And you say that the AI is solid because it doesn't... oh wait it does but let's just move on.

I have to agree, not a good review.

If you know it to be bad fix it.
Seconded again.

Rules to make a good review:

1) Punctuate correctly.
2) Split the review into paragraphs with something like gameplay, graphics, story, multiplayer.
3) "OMG GORE!" is not a valid critical comment.

---

Personally I actually found it a bit weaker than the first one in all terms except narrative. No real final boss was inexcusable for an action game. The variety of combat was sacrificed for vehicle sections that felt a bit artificial to me.

WHY WOULD YOU...oops guess I left the caps lock on also... anyway why would you put that its a bad review in the title. Seems to me that would be cause to not post it, or make it better.(...insert prevalent theme of poorly written...). Next time just spend a little extra time thinking and less time beating your head on the desk till your brain matter comes out.

I do agree though, the game is pretty good. Well worth a play through.

Terrible review..(why you put that in the title is beyond me - why post it?)

Theres no structure, no real detail (besides you crying because your bad at the game), and no real purpose.

In fact the whole multi-player section is effectivly a big "I want the old nooby Gears back" because lets face it, Gears 2 takes a lot more "skill" to do well in than the old one.

As for the review, you casually blurt out mindless details without ever expanding into a review.

How you can possibly think Gears 1 is better than its sequal confuses me...

............what?

I think its a little debatable, but the fact that you said "lets face it, Gears 2 takes a lot more skill" is just ridiculous.

Gears 2 has tons more power weapons, so it often ends up being an ever worse race than the first one. While i dont think the review was very good, he is dead on when he says that the chainsaw is more catered to the less skilled. In gears 1, if you are scraped by a bullet, you chainsaw will be lowered, and cant be reved for a little bit. In gears 2, you can often unload a shotgun shell near point blank, and it wont even phase them. Then theres more frequent spawning of nades, the ability to plant a nades on a wall, stun grenades that are thrown everywhere and stuck. Also when you down a person, you can pick them up and take a ridiculous amount of damage without being hurt. Then theres of course "2-piecing", which became a lot easier. A skilled player should be able to take decent weapons and then do well. When you heavily equip the less skilled, it becomes much easier to take out the people who are without a doubt better. no matter how skilled you are, a bunch of idiots who abuse the stun nades can walk up and kill you. No matter how good you are, if a noob walks up to you and melees you once with a shotgun, all they have to do is shoot and then youre dead. Like i said, its debatable, but you cant possibly say that its clear that gears 2 takes more skill, espcially when the majority of the gears of war fanbase has generally criticized gears 2 for requiring no skill.

Saying your review is not a good one before anyone reads it is like selling a new game and saying "it's a piece of shit, other companies have better games than mine".

The majority of the Gears of War fanbase eh? I have heard that about smoke grenades - something I do beleive generally ruins the game, but besdes that - if your good with a shotgun (something most of the Gears players arn't - henc the shotgun wars in the last game where players consitantly missed each other) this game is easy, as players will run at you wuth their chainsaw revved, a quick headshot will kill them every time. At least this time the game is not based around the whole "run into the middle and shotgun" mentality.

I agree I may have been a but to quick to declare that it took more skill, because there is obviously room for debate, but updates to the sniper (no more downs for example) are great updates.

Epic are currently creating a 3rd update for the multi-player which will include wepon-balancing,apparently.

Well in gears 2, "popshotting" is broken, as the immediate pressing of L and R doesnt work like gears 1 did (immediatly). But when it comes to around the corner, the chainsaw should be lowered if any damage is done, hence why the chainsaw only gave a couple kills, where a noob using it in this game can get just as many kills. The whole run in and shotgun mentality is also only lowered because there are much more powerful weapons to choose now. Plus, if its easier to shotgun, then that does technically cater to the less skilled. But then again, there are things like the sniper being weaker, among other things. Just wanted to say that its not really a black and white thing, as you did say earlier that it was pretty clear. No real point in convincing someone who has their own opinion.

OK. Well, why did you post that, in the knowledge that it was a bad review? In fact, you merely brushed over some very major topics, and completely ignored others. In fact, most of this was you whinging about being killed owned by a chainsaw user. Online is laggy, get used to it. No weapon, item or attachment is "noobish". I utterly despise the term noob, as it is pointless, fucking irritating and displays a complete lack of skill and/or imagination. You actually spent longer complaining, most likely because you weren't very good at the multiplayer, than you did on the entire bloody single player. Bad show, but I like your username.
Seconded.
And unless you've been planning it for a while (which you obviously did not) a review isn't the best idea for one of your first posts. Especially a review that isn't a review, just a rant with no substance or valid points behind it. Carl put it brilliantly, as I too despise the atrocity known as "n00b."
