SPOILER ALERT

I don't see how Maria could be the Locust Queen since a) the Queen was alive in Gears 1, during which Maria is still alive, meaning they exist at the same time and are thus two separate beings and b) Dom domes Maria to put her out of her misery in the course of Gears 2, before we meet the Locust Queen in person.

Also, if I recall correctly, you can hear Maria speak in a dream cutscene that Dom is having in Gears 2. Compare her voice with that of the Queen in Gears 1 and 2 and the difference is quite considerable.

Who the Queen is -- as well as her involvement in the creation of the Locust and with Adam Fenix -- remains a mystery. However, I don't think the OP's theory is the one to explain it.

Sounds very plausible but how did she:

-get away from the facility with the other test subjects
-get underground
-build an entire subterranean civilisation including huge siege monsters like Corpsers and Brumaks and subsequently train them
-Gather all the weapons they needed
-Keep the whole thing hidden

and all that within just one year?

Either those test subjects were extremely awesome workers at the time and later became horrible at warfare because of inbreeding or the design team was on crack.
There was a recording left from the man in charge of the facility before it went down and in his final message said they were moving the test subjects underground in that mountain overnight to "protect the children." Also, didn't say the queen was exactly thirty, around there, so it would have given them time. As for the weapons and such, possibly from the guards (that the children may have killed) and tinkered around with them overtime, learned to construct them.

The locust queen lives down the hall from me in my dorm. If I remember correctly, she's double majoring in interior design and Human Resource Management. I'm not certain, but I think she might have stolen the last of my ice cream from the community freezer.
I heard she gets around, too. If you know what I mean. *wink* *wink* Yeah, you get what I'm saying *nudge nudge*

I'm pretty sure it will Marcus's mom, because that would be just hilarious, and completely fits in with gears.
EXACTLY! If you've read the book (and I have since I have no life) you see that Marcus' mom dissapeared while he was a child. She was exploring tunnels, or something or other underground. Yeah, that's my two-bits.
Eh, you don't need to read it to see that she's his mom. You can see it coming from a million billion miles away.

Actually I was aiming for the fact that you said they starting testing 15 years before you get to that scene, while in the game it's also 15 years after E-Day. Just seems they had developed very fast if it's true.

I don't think they were the first Locust to be around, but they might just be one of the different ones you know. Maybe the Kantus?

nah, you all got it all wrong,
the way i see it,the queen is probably on of adam fenix's expiraments.he probably fused dna with underground creatures. once spawned she replicated, much like an ant farm. thus creating locust. unfortunatley all she would have to do is breed with any of the previous dweling creatures from underground. well, thats if the locust didnt exist yet. anyways....this new race of beings, or already existing ones decide to bow down to this hot underground lady. the cog government is then informed about this new breed of mornarchic and primative race and does not take kindly to it. they then decide to refuse any peace treaties and decide to piss off the locust and blame it on imulsion competition. all this while adam fenix is on exile, imprisoned, held hostage, or hiding out. also civil war that seems more like a plague erupts from the very supposed reason of the human locust war. the queen ends up getting her wish, to sin jacinto regardless, explaining adam fenix's messages. adams previouse messages were probably artificial made by the queen, or maybe he was forced. and the sires are probably all the test subjects that didnt achieve in the expirament to make the queen. and about her being doms broad she aint. he held on to her emaciated body.

I think she's Marcus's mommy.

Marcus's dad was involved in the creation of the Locust, and that's why he was in trouble with the COG.

That explains a hell of a lot. I knew Adam Fenix was behind her in some way but for some reason I never drew the conclusion that it may be his wife, Marcus' mum.
