Anyone who has played any significant amount of Gears of War 3 versus multiplayer has more than likely encountered people who comment about the sawed off shotgun. "Pussy" and "******" are the most common insults as well as the gun takes no skill to use.

Aside from this we should look at the weapon objectively. You only have 4 shots, it takes forever to reload, and if you miss a shot you are more than likely to get killed unless you are lucky enough to run away long enough to reload.

I think most of the frustration comes from getting blind sided from behind. If you are using the sawed off and try to run up to a person head on they can easily take you down with a rifle.

What do you think? Do you feel the gun is balanced or is it over powered and cheap? Did this gun ruin the multiplayer or not?

I use both the Gnasher and the Sawed-Off and I can tell you that the Gnasher is just as deadly at extreme close range although you can only take out one enemy at a time with a single blast. I play KoTH mostly and it almost always boils down to a shotgun fest, though it's just the design of the game I suppose.

I personally hate the thing. If it were a person it would be Gordon Ramsey with the voice of Fran Drescher, his credentials look great but the second you try to work with him all you'd want to do is shove his head in the fryer...and hold it there. Took me forever to unlock the execution and its going to take even longer to get the Bronze for it.

'OMFG! ITS SO BROKEN RAGEAHDHAGVHAFHHBDKSNFHBVDHYUdj!!!!!!!11111111'

It has next to no range and takes forever to reload. But it's also reliable when within range, and I'm decent enough at using the terrain as cover to get into that range.

That's why I prefer it over the gnasher.

I used the sawed-off before, well it diddnt kill multiplayer I just find it useless its just a gnasher but with the ability of killing miltiple opponents with only ONE shot and the chances of that are low as is. If your gonna get an instant kill with a shotgun at melee range it would be better to stick with the gnasher unless you know that your gonna get a cluster of people in one tiny spot. For those who gets killed by it, well you basically werent looking to where your going or your opponent snuck up on you

SHAME!!!

Is there a gun oriented game with regenerating health where a shotgun isn't a one-hit-one-kill deal?

I don't understand the whining personally, the gnasher is far stronger. It can one-shot from further away(assuming you active reload) and it can actually do damage at range. Combine that with an 8 shot clip and a lot more ammo, it's the far more powerful choice in shotguns.

I don't use it. If you can get into range it's an awesome weapon to use, but I prefer me a bit of at distance mincing. The massive close range power is easily outbalanced by it's reload time and limited range. Like many things in competitive multiplayer, the people that complain about it tend to be the ones who can't adapt their style of play and seem to think that their inability to account for it makes it unbalanced.

The Sawed-off needs to be used "correctly" in order for me to not hate the person using it.

Heres the difference:

If sawedoff A runs at a guy, fires, then runs away and either: Dies or Divesaroundreloadingatthesametime. They are the "fags" because they just got an instakill and ran away.

If sawedoff B decides to defend an objective by staying in cover or waiting around a corner, or even just defending a position. Then he is "correctly" using it.

The difference is how it is used, one is being used to defend ones self, the other is being used as a suicide/cheap weapon.

The Sawed-off is a ****** weopon that takes absolutely NO skill what so ever. Yeah, it has a long reload time, short range, no dammage outside kill range, ans four shots, but it also will drop anyone in one shot. all you need to do is dodge the lancer bullets take covera couple times then blast them. And it always beats the Gansher. I love the Gnasher, I have my 6000 kills with it. and my gamer tag is: GnasherReaper people say that the sawed-off is actually not all it's cracked up to be. But it is all you need to do is shoot reload and run away likea pussy. I will join a game and after i get killed by it like 3 or 4 times i switch t it and end up winning with MVP it takes no skill and is mearly for ****** who suck at the game. Yeah its good for people who are new but i see people everyday whor are like 30-80 using it I'm curently level 63 and think it's for fucking pussies. Thanks for your time.
You seem angry, would you like some free counsling?

Its fine. Its close-range only meaning on maps like Gridlock and Drydock and Sandbar, its completely useless because of the wide range of the map. Its useful on Checkout, Thrashball and Trenches simply because the map is mostly meant for close quarters fighting.

Its legitmate, easy to counter, great for guarding a certain area and anyone who complains about is already breaking the first rule of Gears of War by getting that close to someone.

That said, my preference is Hammerburst/Gnasher simply because I like the range and versatility of both guns.

GoW multiplayer to me always seemed to involve a load of chest high walls in a cramped environment
That is a breeding pool for shotgun users
the same way poor team balancing and a very steep perk reward system for COD and to a point WoW both encourage greifing

I think Call of Duty (insert subtitle here) isn't. I hardly ever come across people using one, though, so it might be, but the few times that I have tried one I've never really gotten it to be a one-hit kill. Assault rifles are generally better for everything in that game.
I play Black Ops on occasion, and the Olympia always fit the bill. 1H1K, with only two shots and average reload. Adding Lightweight, Steady Aim, and Hacker makes a surprisingly good anti-sniper setup.

Oi, it's a gun that is in the game so it isn't cheap.
I will admit it is annoying to get killed by it 7 times in one match of TDM but I usually get 7+ kills with it myself.

Off Topic: I can see I'm not the only one who clicked on the red button.
Does anyone here know how long you have to look at bieber's face before you can change your avatar back to something less embarissing?

Gnasher works well for short to medium-short range, but it's lethal range is essentially the same as the sawed off.
However, the sawed off has a very short lethal range... and is completely useless after that.
What I hate about it, is it has twice the horizontal radius as the gnasher. So when you peak around a corner with a gnasher, or blind-fire, you have to know where you are aiming to have a reasonable guarantee that it will actually do anything, nevermind kill the person with 1 shot. The sawed off, you just have to aim in the general area that they are, pull the trigger, and watch their body fly half-way across the map in little pieces.
In a 1 v 1 shotgun match, it is easy to kill a guy who has the sawed off, just be prepared to evade as soon as you get in his kill-zone, then rush back in and blow his brains off with your gnasher. You can shoot once, get the active reload, shoot again, and reload again, before he is able to get off another shot, so just be patient and alert.

Complaining about the sawed off is like complaining about quickscopers.
They are irritating for exploiting the game mechanics, but they are not invincible.

Also, I don't see why assault rifles exist in GoW3 at all, every asshole whores a shotgun anyways...

Getting into the Retro Lancer however, is a different and legitimate complaint >=/
Or fags that have modded controllers and their spammage of the Hammerburst...

CoD shotty is a one-hit-one-kill deal as well, but it's lethal radius is pretty random.
Each shotgun in MW2 technically has the same range and spread, but if you play the game at all, you'll know that just isn't the case.
The starting shotgun, the SPAS-12, works from 1 meter to about 5 meters, especially if you have the foregrip.
All the others, have ranges from 1 meter to 3 meters, but the Striker and Ranger have very large sprays.

You'll see shotties sometimes work from very long ranges, and sometimes do bugger all when you're right next to the fucker.
Assault rifles really are generally better for everything in MW2, but if you like to run and gun, a SPAS-12 with a foregrip will serve you well even if you don't use steady aim.
