They are not cartoonish, nor are most of them that much larger than normal. The fact that they are slightly larger is due to the style the developers went for, they didn't want average Joe somehow beating down a huge monster. They also wear extremely bulky armour, and eat around 6000 calories a day.

I means seriously, the people describing them exaggerate the size more than the developers did when creating them.

It is a third person shooter, not a first person shooter.

I also never recommend going out and buying two games in a series and all of their DLC before having played them even once... that seems rather foolish.

Did you waste your money? Do you feel you got enough enjoyment out of them to justify how much you spent?

If yes, then no you didn't.
If no, then yes you did, but it's your fault really, for not buying one of them to try it out first.

No one plays Gears of War for the story--except me because I love story. The first game certainly did not have a winning story, but the second one pulls the old cliffhanger on you so I must play Gears 3. Part of it's charm is the silly over-the-top characters, the muscles, and the gore. If you don't like that, then you may as well trade them in now because none of those things are going away.
Someone suggested that you play co-op. I couldn't agree more. More games need this type of co-op. If that doesn't get you behind the game, nothing will.

My best advice is to play the campaigns co-op. I think Gears the first has some of the best co-op missions in FPS gaming. But that's just me.
why do people keep calling gears an FPS? im just curious because it's clearly in third person.
While the dividing line between first and third is pretty thin to begin with, Gears' tight camera makes it razor thin. It plays and feels like a first person shooter more often than not... and Epic made it's bones with FPS.
well Pepsi and Coke taste similar on many levels
I lol'd. So much. If there's anything I'm a fanboy of, it's Coke. I can tell you right now, Coke tastes nothing like pisswater... I mean Pepsi.

I do see the point you're trying to make, though. It should be called a TPS, but people can get a bit off when it comes to genres.
well i like coke better too, and i even pay more for it, even if pepsi is on sale, but when you're new to soda then it's hard to tell the difference

I played the first on PC and (maybe it was just the PC controls) but I couldn't get into it. I generally tend to prefer my shooters in First Person; stick something in Third Person and I'm expecting a platformer. The story? Similar to Halo I think it's one of those that are present but you'll only notice if you care to look.

I can't speak about 2 because it never got PC release soo...
