Ok, I'm going to be a new dad here in August. It's our first, and will be a boy. My wife has been going crazy buying baby clothes, toys, etc., but I want to have some influence here too. I would really like to find some Doctor Who themed plush toys, baby clothes, etc. Problem is, I can't locate anything outside of some really expensive stuff at Cafe Express ($12 for one bib? Come on!). Any Fathers/Mothers on the Escapist able to help me out? I would be interested in other geek-themed baby stuff as well. I want to raise my kid up right!

Congrats on the boy! All my friends are cursed with girls.
I think if I had a girl I'd look sadly down at my testicles and whimper, "Why, boys? Why?".

Sadly I'm a UK citizen so I can't really recommend you anything.

A couple of weeks ago I had an epiphany, it popped into my head from absolutely nowhere, but I realised that I knew what I would absolutely 100% call my son, if I ever have one: Luke.
And thus whenever I go to any parent/teacher thing or have to introduce myself to other parents I can put on a deep voice and proclaim loudly
"I AM LUKE'S FATHER!"
Sorry to go off topic, but I thought I'd just share that. It's the perfect way to Geek your baby.

I'd google it if I were you. Maybe check half.com or amazon.
Yeah, I tried google, but I had a hard time finding anything good beyond the Cafe Express site. I also found Baby Geek, but it didn't have a whole lot of geek culture stuff, mostly just cool geeky stuff for parents like baby monitors, baby silverware, sound machines, etc. I was looking for some things I could dress my boy up in to show our proud geek colors (and embarrass the wife a bit).

Trust me, that was one of the names I tried to run past my wife, it quickly got nixed, along with quite a few others I was fond of. She has no sense of humor when it comes to baby names. All the more reason for me to buy the toys!

Also starting all lectures with "Luke, I am your father..." [heavy breathing mandatory]

Is the name already decided on, or may I suggest that your son's name be something totally badass, like Bjorn?

Geeky stuff usually is expensive, especially from websites like Thinkgeek, so I'd avoid geeky baby clothes simply because they grow out of them so freakin' fast. They do have cool plushies and all that. Talking about plushies, if you like HL2, get him this:

Ain't it adorbs?

We did finally agree upon a name. I like your idea, but she really prefers more traditional names, though I really fought for something a bit cooler like Vincent or Victor (and those were the tamer ones I tried). Trust me, we were arguing names for months.

Also, here's a link:

The bibs are a little less expensive than cafe express ($8)... but the big things there for me are the later kids' stuff. I've already bought my nephews plush talking bacon, a plush monkey/sleeping bag, and evil genius alphabet blocks...

Oh yes, I will do that every time and it will never grow old.
My brother's name is Luke. I have in the past said...."Luke.... I am, your Brother!" when he complains about how bad my farts are or how embarrassing I am.

I would suggest looking on ebay and other semi-random places for homemade stuff. or if you're any good at crafts DIY some nerd plushies.

Let her name him whatever she wants, in return for choosing the middle name.

Always call him by his middle name.

What's wrong with Girls? :(
Girls love gaming too, look!
She can even turn the PS3 on, eject the disc and insert a new one the correct way, not bad for a new 2 year old and a Girl

Congrats, little humans are suprisingly amazing and a lot of joy!
