I hate the geek stereotype that says anyone who likes computers or talks about gaming too much is obviously a nerd and look like this.

ya i hate that too. which is why i started a thread about it a while back
I'm a complete nerd and I definitely look like I can kick ass :l But seriously, how everyone is like using that as a stereotype for nerds kinda sucks. Should I start wearing those glasses and high pants? =/

LARP (I'm an avid fan of tabletop roleplaying games, I'll admit, I get into character, but when it comes to certain things, I'll let my dice do the talking)
rabid fanboyism (or worse, girl-ism) when it comes to console/pc, game, operating system, anime or whatever... STOP IT
elitism - I do what I do because I enjoy it, not because it will do the most damage or is not optimal (though I do like to optimize characters in said tabletop RPG's...)

oh... the smell

Cosplayers are the only things that i can not stand. It maybe that I just don't like dressing up in general, but cosplaying really makes no sense to me and seems really embarissing.

There is quite some Larp hate here ;) Why? It's easy to see larp as a bunch of idiots argumenting over details in rules....but almost all the stuff that can be said against Larp, could also be said about DnD.

No, people dont loose sight of reality. Yes, when the game stops, we act back to normal.

Furries, vampires, and anime in general.

Particularly the weeaboo type persons who use " :3 " or "XD" or goodness knows what more often than punctuation.

We have words for a reason, and I can understand you being too lazy to type out all the letters in a word or of using internet-spawned acronyms (I'm way too dependent on 'lmao' as a word which translates into "I found that amusing"). But relying on terrible ascii renditions of stylized faces to convey mood? NO. DO NOT WANT.jpg with a dash of facepalm. Learn to use some freaking English.

Seriously, I much enjoy talks with people who have English has a second to fifth language and are constantly beating themselves up about their 'poor English' when it's better than most people who type it as a first language. I try to tell them about that but hey, modesty lives on in Europe I guess.

Many things said sum up what I dislike, but I have to emphasize:

- Intolerable geek fans of a specific game/anime/source that fail to properly discuss any topic (including the one they are fans of).

- Laughing by saying "LOL" instead of ACTUALLY laughing.

I hate coding. All of it. Even using Dreamweaver is proving to be a pain in the arse at the moment
Dreamweaver and HTML/CSS is not coding.

I also can't stand it when people think using HTML or CSS is A) complicated or B) think they're web design gods because they can use motherfucking Dreamweaver or publisher.

Why all the hate on anime?

I also get annoyed when people talk about the specs of computers when they know full well that I haven't got a clue what they're talking about.

I know plenty of people who don't.

Sorry about shitting on your hobby, but I will never understand why people do this.

I confess to being a total dunce in that area of things. However that is a rather stupid answer.

LARP is excellent IF you get the right players. Any reasonable site should provide hours of fun with you able to act like an idiot. I'd suggest this view from a non-LARPER.

And also to anyone who does know LARPs

Wow, haha, thanks for posting this. It hasn't changed my opinion, but I live in canterbury and a friend of mine in school is in this program. I'd just never seen it before.

For every geeky larp film you pull out, Im sure i could find a geeky DnD movie. Also,m there are plenty of DnD people that cant act back to normal after their game.

Larp is fun because it's like DnD, but more real. The emotions, th thrill of combat, it is more real/ But on the other hand, you need to create this suspense of disbelief for yourself, because we can't create high end particle effects in real life, right? :) So I agree its not for everyone, but i feel the amount of hate it often gets it also undeserved.

Like I said, Larp is the new thing to shit on instead of DnD. It gets EXACTLY the same cliches, the same nerd images, the same jokes.

They actually made a DnD movie called Dungeons and Dragons. It sucked. A LOT. And I think the reason folks hate LARP is that the thought of grown folks swinging foam swords around is a bit ridiculous. Personally, I don't care, I used to do the same kind of thing when I was a little kid, so I would think of it as nostalgic. But when you think about it, isn't Airsofting and paintball kind of the same thing as LARPing?

Oh, and as a cosplayer (feeling a lot of hate in this thread) I draw the line at certain points. I dress up as a character to express my love of said character/series. I DO NOT go and "act" like my character. Those are some scary folk. I look at it more as a perpetual Halloween and a way to meet people who like what you like. I'm a very casual cosplayer. That's not scary, is it? :(
Fair enough, just understand that a lot of people associate it with some very annoying excesses. Of course, it's completely different if you're dressing up for an SCA event.
Completely.
That was sarcasm, BTW. It's silly for most of us, who are okay with a lot of behavior that the rest of our societies calls weird or aberrant, to use a particular segment as our personal punching bag. Subverting social conventions is part of what made geekiness fun for me when I was a teenager, I see no reason to deny it to anyone today.
