People already aren't paying attention to the fact that it's illegal to download music/movies because it's largely uninforced. Think threatening them with a $20 fine is going to change that?

Provide a few examples of people getting fucked over as a concequence and provide proof of the ability to track down who does, and suddenly a lot less people will take the chance.

Those who still do have made their own decision. They know the concequence, and have chosen a course of action anyway. I have no sympathy.

The current (my) generation of 15-28 year olds need to learn that they can and should be held responsible for their own actions, something society has done a shit poor job of doing recently.

Don't get me wrong, I don't support piracy (exception to the rule being when something is impossible to attain any other way). However, it is a completely overblown reaction to ruin the lives of people who steal even 10 songs (a grand worth of $10).

Same goes for the court cases where a woman was sued $2,000,000 for sharing 24 songs. That sort of punishment is beyond excessive; it's impossibly greedy.

"Greed" isn't the right word, that kind of reaction is sociopathic. If you think someone should be left in a financial hole forever, and possibly serve time...for downloading a couple of albums worth of songs...where is the sense of propriety? You don't take a machete to a pillow fight...

OT: Gene had the nerve to talk about repurcussions for actions, ignoring that he is also accountable for the words that come out of his mouth. What he said was stupid...I get the feeling that he has been rich for too long.

He's a tool at this point in his life.

Anonymous didn't invent the word, nor motto. They borrowed it as I did, so I disagree.

In fairness to Balrin, anon is more famously know for using the word than you are, and you show a disliking for the anonymous. So yeah, it is ironic.

True, but as I pointed out, I borrowed it, I am not claiming originality. I also like it for reasons that are completely different from theirs (based upon their attitude and actions that is).

Their ideal seems to be "We are many and you don't know us, so don't mess with us". Which to me, is just plain cowardice. Old school bullying where they can't do it alone or if they risk any consequences.

Ya, he's a total dick for vowing to go after people who are engaged in illegal activities, including attacking his own site. He should learn that these crimes don't hurt anybody, and that poor college kids can't afford to buy music so should be given it for free.

If they are that stupid to risk going to jail for that then that's their problem not his.

In the US, there are laws about that. They're in place so that people don't get punished badly for small crimes. Just like a pickpocket shouldn't be executed, someone who downloads 99 cent music off the internet for free shouldn't go to jail for life.

How about, instead of arresting the guy who's buying pot, you arrest the goddamn idiot who is selling it worldwide. If Gene Simmons crack team of lawyers can track down every last Anon and get them V& off to jail then they should maybe spend less time doing pointless tasks and maybe spend more arresting the people who allow illegal downloads to happen.

History class taught me about 400 years ago the people stopped hanging people for theft in the rennaissance. And Gene Simmons is gonna make the law crazy again. What I never got is techinically everything shared over the internet is data and information so under the law of free speech, why would you make it so people cant share information? So much for a free country (at least we can pirate her in Canada just fine ).

Out of everyone, it sounds like Gene Simmons can give Anonymous a run for their money. I expect nothing but a win for our faceless friends in Anonymous, but out of all their targets, I think Gene Simmons will do the most damage before he get crushed.

Anonymous is like the Iron Maiden regenerate from RE4...it's lethal and dangerous, sure that one has to die, but Gene doesn't have the thermal scope, so it's going to take a lot of damage, and have to regenerate a lot, but in the end Gene will end up on the painful side of it's long iron spikes...sorry Gene, you did better than most
