You just declared war on the internet.
A part of the internet, not the internet itself.

I can't really put into words how much I despise the modern day entitlement of the "artist". Every idiot thinks he deserves money for singing a song, writing a book, filming a movie, etc. It's fucking ridiculous, and it's tremendously insulting to actual artists.
"Actual" artists?

It actually surprises me how many people are taking this guys side on this. Sure Anon isn't exactly the hero The Internet wants, but it's certainly the one it deserves.
Wow, the internet must have really effed up big time we deserve them as a "hero".

And I mean really messed up. Like colossally so.

Simmons is a loud-mouthed, egotistical whore who had a half-cocked, vaguely relevant rock band a few decades ago. Who gives a fuck about Gene Simmons?

Honestly. Fuck him. His mouth made a check that his website couldn't cash and now, instead of backing down or just simply shutting the fuck up or whatever (because God forbid the brilliant Gene Simmons pipe down, he started KISS for fuck sake) he is opening his gob yet again and inviting more hurt.

History will soon forget him him like the bloated, ugly, outdated moron that he is and his music will likely end up a footnote in a popular music history textbook in a few hundred years as it rightly should and this is going to (I hope) end in hilarity for anyone who doesn't give a toss about Simmons and his planet-sized, undeserved ego.

First he had a story about a leaking boat (a decent analogy for making his point IMO)
This seems like a throwaway point in this thread, but it's really the heart of the matter.

I don't believe the standard music model, as represented by Gene Simmons and the organizations allied with him, is a boat. A boat, as an object, is really quite beyond reproach. It serves a very specific and valid function. That it should leak is not a given symptom of its nature; leaking is not integral to its existence as a boat.

The boat of our modern day music industry, as presented by Simmons and his ilk, leaks necessarily - because it is not sound. They attempt to make it sound through force of will and litigation, but that does not make it a boat.

For the boat to function as an appropriate analogy for this industry, these leaks would have to be fixable aberrations rather than revealing, systemic flaws.

In other words, I believe the existence of leaks, in this case, means we're not in a boat. It's more like a collection of shoddy, hastily-assembled planks that is quickly coming undone beneath us, as it should. People like Simmons are desperately trying to hold it all together because it generates abnormally lavish lifestyles for them. Despite their cries and legal manipulations, that is not a valid reason to maintain an outlandish system.

Space Jawa, I take it you've never heard of: Goatse, Two girls one cup, not even doom music, river puppy, and many others. Anon are what made them. Hero and supervillain at the same time.

Well Gene your shitty muzak has never enticed me in the slightest so be glad that I have never stolen money from your pockets. I hope that circumstances allow you to one day have this girlfriend experience of which I hear you are proponent.

"Actual" artists?
Yep. Actual artists. People who do for the sake of it rather than the reward of it. People who aren't Gene Simmons. He may have numbered among them once, but I think it's safe to say those days are long gone. The man was giving a speech at a conference for successfully monetizing "art"; I think that disqualifies him rather entirely from the category of artist.

Art isn't a job. If you can make a living by creating art, you are blessed - but that doesn't mean it should always be so for everyone who does the same. The world doesn't owe you a single fucking thing above and beyond a little common decency and the opportunity to survive and thrive, IMO. Those who think differently, who think that a little bit of "talent" or a single good idea should generate untold millions and a kingly existence, are at the root of our current economic crisis.

Gene said nothing before the first hack. They hacked his site for who and what he supports.
Apart from that stuff about suing anyone who has shared a file, which was just another publicity stunt from a quickly aging musician wanting to milk the last few dollars out of any fame he once had.

It is why Gene keeps baiting annon, he wants the publicity (as it sells more KISS crap).

Oh come on, I like Simmons. I mean, he's trying to pick a fight that he might not be able to win, but damned if he's not going to go down swinging. The man does not lie when he's making a threat. He has every intention of going to the houses of the collective Anonymous and pulling each and every one involved out by their hair.

I just hope, when we chat someday, he doesn't ask me if I like his music... I'm a terrible liar.

I read three pages and skipped to the end. If no one has said this already, here is why you cannot really even beat Anonymous within reason.

Anonymous = 1000 people. (Arbitrary number for example)
Anonymous Advocates/sympathizers/idolizers or people with apathy watching = 100,000
Gene Simmons = 1 people + law bodies.

Law bodies catch 3 people from Anonymous. Suddenly 997 people left to do their thing.

Anonymous advocates/sympathizers/idolizers see in the news the grossly exaggerated legal treatment of 3 random people, 33 join up with and become Anonymous.

News coverage and spreading word brings more people to advocate/sympathize/idolize Anonymous.

Anonymous = 1030 people.
Anonymous advocates/sympathizer/idolizers or people with apathy watching = 150,000
Gene Simmons = 1 people + law bodies.

These numbers are completely random and just thrown out there, but there ARE people who see what 'Anonymous' doing as a good thing but they themselves don't REALLY want to do anything for fear or apathy. Then when they see someone in high power or luxury or celebrity status do something and 'ruin the lives' of a few individuals they managed to caught, they get whipped into actually wanting to do something to 'stick it to the man.'

This is how I see it, and this is why I believe 'anonymous' as it is cannot be 'beaten.'

If in the days of kings, there was a way for people to anonymously show their malcontent with the ruling bodies, there would be a great many. And if they had the means to do things to spite the king without major risk to themselves, I think they'd do it.

Fun stuff!

No, Simmons is using the situation to drum up publicity and annon fell for it.

Simmons is now milking it for all it is worth.

Look at his comments over the last few years. Simmons clearly makes outrageous statements every so often to garner more press (to sell more KISS crap).

This one was just much more successful (in getting attention) than usual.

The most amusing thing about this to me are all of the people here who keep saying they hate anonymous.

What you all don't realize is that unless your screen name is your real name, YOU are also apart of anonymous. No one here knows what you look like, what choices you've made in the past, or just who YOU are.

To quote and paraphrase a certain fanfic out there; "No haters. YOU are the anonymous! And then everyone on the escapist was anonymous."

So saying that every college kid that used the service when it first came out as well as the people who created it right when it first came out would have amounted to what? tops 2 thousand?

well so much for liking simmons, he sounds like a pretty big dick
Ya, he's a total dick for vowing to go after people who are engaged in illegal activities, including attacking his own site. He should learn that these crimes don't hurt anybody, and that poor college kids can't afford to buy music so should be given it for free.

Oh wait...
He's a dick for saying that he wants people to lose their homes, lose their lives and put them in jail for downloading a song that's worth $0.99
These are likely the same people who pirated the Humble Indie Bundle.
Forgive me for not feeling sorry for people who have a sense of entitlement so great that they think paying a dollar for a song is beneath them.
