OP, if I might recommend, try Darker than Black, Monster, Berserk and Texhnolyze. All might appeal to you. Also, Full Metal Alchemist is pretty good, watch that too.

The anime for Deadman Wonderland comes out on the 17th so might want to give that a look.

Avatar: The Last Airbender. It was a terrible movie, but the original show, while not technically anime, takes a lot of influence from it. And despite being made for a younger audience, it is still one of the richest experiences I have ever in any storytelling medium, even though I'm in college.

Also, the voice of the Firelord is none other than Mark Hamill, aka Luke Skywalker. The two hour finally is incredible, simply incredible.

You can watch almost all of the episodes online, on Nickelodeon's site I think even. Actually, there is a site that lets you watch almost all of them, and in order, but I don't remember what rules there are on posting links, so PM me if you're interested
