I have a rule of thumb for when I am going to buy a game, if it cannot be played without internet or even has a large aspect of the game that can only be played online (with obvious exceptions like how cod can be local or online for instance) I will not buy it. Does anybody else do this?

No, because its not the early 00's anymore. My computer is always hooked up to the internet, so I fail to see the reason why this would offend you, unless you still have dial-up for some reason. Why would you care if you had a reliable, always-on internet connection?

Nice potshot at D3 by the way.

I don't tend to buy a game until after reading up/watching more on it to see if I will like it, and a demo is handy too.

It depends on the type of game. I won't buy anything short of an MMO purely for the multiplayer, but I applaud a well done multiplayer alongside my single player content.

That's exactly the problem though. There are still a good number of people out there that live in areas that do not currently facilitate a high speed connection. It is not their fault that they are out of high speed service zones. It's unreasonable that they should have to move from their current location just to play a certain game, especially because games like Diablo 3 should have a single player offline mode anyway.

What happens when the company has to do routine maintenance and you lose out on playing your game for a few hours when you want to play the game? It's a stupid system.

OT: I'm gonna just go with what this guy/girl said (because it's basically true)

I do, if it looks fun, I look into it, and if it still looks fun, I rent/buy it.
Bet (s)he is gonna hate the amount of times (s)he gets quoted here.

It's a good thing I'm not them then. Given that even the company that provided internet to the fairly rural part of Texas where I grew up only offers broadband, I honestly kind of doubt that this is effecting THAT many people... at least in the US.

Besides, it's not like many people actually played the D2 single player. Fuck, I almost exclusively played D2 online even when I had dial-up. This is why I don't give a shit about this decision, because even when my internet was limited, I still seldom bothered playing D2 single player. All my friends did the same thing as well. I get the feeling that a majority of the people complaining about this never actually played D2, and didn't realize that you probably ended up spending a majority of your time on B.net, even if it was sitting around in a server by yourself.

My rule of thumb? Buy games on Platinum prices. Yeah, i dont have that much cash to spend on games. Also, i tend to buy games with online features and local co-op when possible so i can play with my brother and my friends.

I played Diablo 2 offline, I had so many assholes coming in and ruining my bloody game. That said I'm certain the new diablo will have a function to prevent unwanted visitors from joining your server.

OT: Never Pee on the controller/keyboard is a general rule of gaming

Also when I buy a game I alternate between something that looks nice and something I've researched. Some of my favourite games have been bargain bin curiosities
