We all have our weaknesses. For me, I love side-quests, collection, and exploration based game-play. I easily get suckered into series like Assassin's Creed, Minecraft, and Okami where I can dick around in the game world for HOURS before going into the actual story and missions.

Katamari Damancy is also a big weakness of mine. Same game-play every time and it's STILL fun as hell for me!

So what genres or series are you a complete sucker for? The types of games you'll want to buy/rent/borrow as soon as it's announced even if you know for a fact that it'll suck balls?

Anything in the main Pokémon series. Though, I know for a fact that each time I buy one it will be the best game purchase I make for months on end.

Well, I guess its Marvel vs. Capcom.

I really shouldn't be enjoying the third one as much as I am. There's not many options for both online modes and offline modes, the story they hyped up is non-existent, and it just doesn't have much in there.

Yet its my favorite 2D fighter ever. Its so damn fun its stupid. I'm actually thinking of buying that costume pack thats coming soon. I shouldn't be doing that.

EDIT: Oh, also Timesplitters. I'll spend any amount of money I need to on a new Timesplitters game, if it ever gets announced.

For me it's manga in general. I'll get anything from the library as long as it's manga, even if I know it's going to be horribly bad. There is one manga that is the exception to this. It's so horribly bad that I just can't force myself to read it. I don't even want to write its name. But apart from that one? I'll read anything.

Anything involving Bethesda...Elder Scrolls games, Fall Out 3 and now Brink. A shooter, by Bethesda. Should be epic.

No one, really.
The one thing that usually lures me in however is if the game has some degree of exploration and a huge length to it. I love FPS-games, but these days the campains just seem to get shorter and shorter, so I don't bother to buy any anymore. Haven't been even the slightest intrested in CoD, in spite of it seeming to be so popular.

I did buy Assassins Creed II on it's release day though. Pretty unusual for me, since I normally wait at least six months before I buy a newly released game. They're expensive in Sweden, so paying full price isn't really something I want to do.
Buy them cheap from England now however, but their price system have made me even cheaper. A game for 24£ seems like much to me now, yet it's still 50% cheaper than in Sweden!

Uuh, starting to go a bit off topic here.
Bah, I'm gonna say Ratchet & Clank. In spite of the games being exactly the same I always look forward to the new one. Still waiting for A Crack in Time to arrive though. Sold out everywhere! :'<

Timesplitters. Only that. Only the most perfect FPS franchise in the world can have me ignore any sense of reasoning in my brain. Only Timesplitters can make me stupid.

That and maybe crack

Agreed. I hate short campaigns which is why I prefer games that really let you explore the world and do side-quests. I played AC: Brotherhood recently and finished the main story sequence in probably 20 hours...

I spent 30 hours just dicking around Rome XD

I know most people didn't like Brotherhood, but I felt I got my money's worth just for that.

Indeedy, im a massive "Shounen fag" but I read KimiKiss Various Heroines and found it to be unbelievably "DAAAAAAAAAAAWR" inspirering, seriously better then Shakespere (which by the way doesnt translate well to manga... bloody shakespere company).

Sandboxes, open worlds. It's why I love Oblivion and am looking forward to Skyrim. I love any open world game except the GTA series. I just can't get into that setting.

Seinen, I can stand the Shonen genre; the only shonen manga/anime I enjoyed was Death Note. Favorites: Ghost in the Shell, Monster, Battle Royale and Jormungand. Also mechs in video games, this unfortunately made me buy the rather lackluster, to say the least, AC4 and Chromehounds.

Edit: LOL compare my pic to the avatar above :)

It used to be Star Wars when I was a kid. If there was a new Star Wars game, I would pester my parents about getting it constantly. Bear in mind this was back in the early to mid 90's, when Star Wars was still cool. There was no prequel trilogy yet to sully the reputation of the films, Timothy Zahn had just published the Thrawn books, and Lucasarts was producing nothing but triple-A titles, like X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and Jedi Knight. Truly those years marked a "Golden Age," a time when kids could proudly proclaim they were Star Wars fans without being ridiculed by their peers. But I digress...

Right now I'd say anything related to the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Ever since learning about the series by playing the excellent Dawn of War, I've been an avid fan. Because it still hasn't gotten much exposure in America, I try my best to support the series through purchasing the novels and video games (I could actually care less about the tabletop game). Hell, I even bought Squad Command for the Nintendo DS. That title's obscure enough, and most of the people who did buy it got the PSP version.

I am a sucker for Western RPGs. Basically. I love the Mass Effects and the Elder Scrolls's and whatnot.

I feel like I should play more other games, but I just don't have as many.

I found my game twin. I too am a sucker for Katamari and any game where you get to explore and collect all sorts of weird things in weird places and do all sorts of weird side things. That's probably the reason Fallout 3 is my favorite for this gen. Have you played Saints Row 2? You would proably dig that one.
I have been wanting to check out Minecraft but I refuse to pay that much for a beta. WE are the ones who are supposed to get paid to test a beta. It should at least be free.
Unfortunately, particularly good franchises have their peaks and then they tumble. Like GTA San Andreas was one of my favorites of last gen but I found gta4 to be very lame. Sure it had the collectables and side things but instead of being rewarded with respawning vehicles & guns as well as stat boosts, we just got achievement trophies. Even Fallout New Vegas was disappointing with locations that were comparatively shallow and a lack of weird random events; of course the worst problem was that it's a technical mess.
But that's why I rent: I keep hoping that someone will buck the trend.

Anything by valve or frictional games (the guys who made Amnesia: dark decent)
Oh and anything in the fallout series, i love running about post-apocalyptic wastelands.
