What movies, TV Shows, or other forms of media can you think of that were really quite scary for you?

I mean, there are plenty of games that I found scary. The Silent Hill series, nearly every installment was very creepy, and pretty damn good. Dead Space had some pretty scary parts, but mostly jump-outs. Resident Evil was a little creepy in some parts, but played much scarier. Those games were just fun for me. (Though regenerators were pretty damn scary in RE4 since I forgot the thermal scope.) The Condemned games were pretty damn creepy. The F.E.A.R. games were scary as well in several parts. I was even scared of Halo: Combat Evolved when I first played it.

However, movies never scare me anymore. At best, I find them cheesy in an adorable sort of way, and at worst I just find them laughable. There was one movie that was actually pretty creepy, and that was Jacob's Ladder. Other than that, I haven't seen anything other than games that I thought were honestly scary. So, I'd like it if you lot could recommend some good horror stuff to change my mind on this.

Keep in mind, I am very skeptical, and probably won't like anything that was popular or is a gore-fest such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Grudge, etc.

EDIT: I just remembered, I saw the Japanese version of The Ring. That was pretty good as well. I also really liked the TV series Supernatural. It had some pretty damn scary episodes, and I thought it was almost as good as House.

Twilight scared the hell out of me, but I don't think that was what you meant.

Weeks? Damn. You're jokin', right?

Silent Hill the movie or the Silent Hill games? The games are scary as hell, yeah, but I heard the movie wasn't exactly good. Then again, they said the Max Payne movie was crap, and I loved it.

The first Friday The 13th, Nightmare On Elm St, and Halloween aren't really gore-fests. I'd say they were all pretty scary and they were the only ones that actually scared me/left a lasting impression on my mind. I'm still afraid of Freddy Kruger invading my dreams. So I recommend watching those horror movies nowadays are either complete gore-fests or just so laughably bad that it looks like they didn't even try to put together a good movie. You also might find Paranormal Activity to be scary. Its really a shame that nowadays you can't really get a good horror movie to see in theaters.

I know, right? I wondered if it was just me, but I think maybe I am just spoiled on the interactivity of the games, that watching someone ELSE have to walk through that door is so much easier than making an avatar of myself do it.

Anyway, I might give those a try, but I doubt I would like them much... Especially considering their age and such.

Well I did exaggerate a bit on the whole couldn't sleep for weeks thing, but it did scare me, and I saw it when I was like 8. And the silent hill games, the movie scared me for a different reason... on how bad it was.

They're making a new Exorcism movie. That could be scary but probably not. Movies never scare me because I'm not being attacked by a zombie, someone else is. If it's not happening to me, I have no reason to be scared.

Edit: Marble Hornets is really scary, I can't watch it at night. Also, some of the monsters from the Silent Hill movie were pretty freaky.

Easy choice, horrendously easy choice.

Marble Hornets.
Go look that up, it's free, 28-part and on Youtube.

Be prepared to not sleep for a few weeks.

Lol.

Yeah, the games are great. Each of them are among my favorite games of all times, except maybe the ones done by Climax. *Angry face*

Seriously, a Silent Hill game with no combat? Then Origins. =_= Weapon degradation? FFFFFUUUUU- You play as a trucker? That's retarded. And officially the most contrived reason to visit a hospital EVER. Shattered Memories had a good story, though.

(I don't care what people say, Homecoming was a DAMN good game.)

Uhh, anyway... Maybe I should've put this in the gaming thread... XD

OH YEAH! The Exorcist. THAT was actually pretty good. =] Only mildly scary, though. >:[

Would you care to explain it? I'm a wuss in this kind of stuff...

Try Aliens. I actually wasn't scared at all by Alien.

The original Texas Chaisaw Massacre is still one of the best horror movies I've ever seen.

I don't know if Paranormal Activity was that good, but it was damn effective, that's for sure.

Also, Twin Peaks has some incredibly creepy moments.

The Decent scared the hell out of me, but I've always had a fear of being buried alive so watching it was torture. Watching it with my cousin who laughed at me the whole time didn't help either...

Also, Marble Hornets... you either lose sleep watching it or lose sleep because of it...

Paranormal Activity

If you managed to avoid the hype and trailers it's a pretty good film. I like horror/suspense films set in reality.

This may seem like an odd one but the original Japanese-language version of Gojira is pretty damn terrifying. It loses most of it's impact in the American re-dub for some reason.

[Rec.] is full of good adrenaline fuelled scares. I'm told the American remake (Quarantine) is pretty good too.

Last but not least, the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers really got under my skin, very claustrophobic.

Jacobs Ladder, son. Jacobs Ladder. It's a must see movie if you love the Silent Hill series.
