Genuinly surprised there aren't more 3DS threads.

Figured the Escapist would be buzzing with them by now.
Just tried one out at GAME, considered it, but personally I'm waiting until late April when the good stuff starts coming out (and nearer to eStore)

It's the internet, and the Escapist. Liking Nintendo is a easy way to make enemies. And they know this.

Snap actually, it came out today didn't it? I definatly want one, but with more battery power, so i'm waiting for the inevitable DSI or price drop first

The people who do have them are probably too busy playing them to make threads about them.
I don't blame them.

Now that you mention it....

I was actual curious on what the members here think of it. I'm not getting it, but I still like to hear some opinions on it.

I would guess most Escapists in the market for one are holding off for the moment. The big games have yet to drop, and an upgraded 3DS with better DS emulation and a more energy-efficient battery is probably just around the corner, so there's no real reason to get one right away.

Alright, well let me think...
Looks pretty damn gorgeous I must admit. Follows the DS Lite approach (I personally dislike the size of the original DS and the XL) and has both forward and backward facing cameras. 3D is actually quite impressive, and even though I didn't get to see very much of it, they let me have a go at handling one and it was better than I assumed.
Joystick is a little weird, more like a very fat button (like those old arcade fighting machine ones?) and fiddling with the 3D-switch on the side made my eyes go funny.

Still, I think for what it is the 3DS is worth near what their charging (near meaning once the initial price boom drops) and I qctually quite LIKE that they added many Wii features onto it, like the Miis and virtual console. Yes I know it's a sin to like those things, but I want to play old nintendo games on it.

Dissapointed that non-3DS games can't exhibit ANY of the 3D tech, figured it would give a little dimension at least.

£210 in GAME right now, £185 in Amazon. Not going to wait for a 3DSi (since it already HAS all the DSi features!) or an XL (because bigger is not better).

probably because its another overpriced gimmicky nintendo toy? like the DSi, or the DSiXL or the many ieterations of other nintendo junk. Its going to have a bunch of Mario titles and thats it. I wont buy it.

Got it pre-ordered and will head out Sunday morning and pick it up. Right now there is maybe 1 game specifically for it I want.. but I know there will be a huge hype and then shortage of units and when the good games come rolling soon Ill have the damn thing.

Although I am sure there are many people on here who enjoy hand-held games, the amount really isn't that high in the grand scheme of things, the majority play the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Also it would interfere with complaining about Dragon Age 2, and we can't have that.

quoting from another website where i already posted my opinion yesterday and edited it today a bit)

Well i got mine and i <3 it

Bought Pilotwings and nintendogs and cats.

The system comes with a 2gig sd card for data(beats the wii had by far). Making 3d pictures with the camera's is really cool. It looks great as well.
It has a free mp3 player program(just put your songs on the sd card).

Future updates will bring a browser. You can move your mii's from your wii onto the 3DS (also if i read correctly you can transfer your dsi store bought items onto the 3ds as well). At the moment it lacks a download store but should be coming with one of the updates soon.

Gonna see tomorrow how it reacts with non eu ds games.

Edit : It not only plays non eu games but it even recognizes the titles and adds it to your what have you played library (did surprised me a bit since you can rate ds games through the wii but only games from your own region.

Now just have to wait about how the region coding of the 3ds games are done.

Wonder how the browser will work (and if getting it will be free as was the wii version was at the beginning (and after a while ))

Ah thanks for the description. Sounds nice overall, maybe I might reconsider not buying it. MAYBE...

I won't see any here in the US until Sunday. I may have to visit a Best Buy to play with one but, I'm not going to actually buy one until the mark 2 comes out. It doesn't have to be the 3DS equivalent of a DSlite (it made sense in my head, shut up) but if a special ed 3DS is released with Ocarina of Time then I'm jumping on that one.

The game lineup isn't very interesting sofar, so there's not much to talk about. Wait longer.

A mate in UK bought me one and sent it already.

And I'm going to get it not because I need another handheld.

I'm going to buy it so I can play it on some bench in front of some Elementary school and annoy the kids by not letting them play and making excited noises like "OHHHHH! WOOAH! SO COOL".

And such.

I will add a bit more.
The always on wifi can be turned off by a touch of a button (since planes and hospitals rather have it of). Every 100 steps gives you 1 coin (what you can spend on several things) you can get 10 coins a day. At the moment only the augmented games uses coins (to buy extra games and a few other things) and the Mii puzzle and adventure games.

It doesn't have the 3ds shop or the webbrowser but should be added with future updates (though i expected the 3ds shop to be implemented with todays update.

The ds games that you play will use the original screensize of the top screen (sounds obvous but somehow if it stretched it i wouldn't be surprised either).

For the augmented games and face raider to work you need a good lit room (and some movement space).
