Meh.
Pretty damn sure that Sony would use whatever they found, regardless of it being irrelevant to the case at hand, to show geohot as a "bad guy" and won the case on that alone, even though what the case should really be about is the freedom of a consumer to modify their purchased hardware.
The linked article also says something about Sony finding out that he had 4 PS3 systems and with 1 of them he got onto PSN... That seems pretty irrelevant but I'll bet their planning to say "oh, well, he did get on PSN which means he did agree to the terms of service, which means even though on his other consoles that aren't hooked up to PSN he still has to abide by the ToS". Which hardly should mean anything but again... that's the way it would have panned out I'd wager.
