"The rumor - which, again, is extremely tenuous - claims that the in-development live-action "Star Wars" TV series (which Lucas claims has "over 50 hours" worth of scripts just sitting on a shelf, waiting) will begin with a group of bounty hunters discovering a way to travel through time. Armed with this new-found ability, they head back to the Clone Wars era and prevent Anakin Skywalker from becoming Darth Vader.

So Anakin doesn't become Vader. He raises his twins, Luke and Leia, in a loving (if whiny) household. THE EVENTS OF THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY NEVER HAPPEN.

Before you scoff at this notion, remember one very important thing: George Lucas does not love the original movies. In fact, there is a lot of evidence to suggest he outright hates them."

Wow... Just wow...

I really hope this is just a rumour blown way out of proportion, needless to say, it would go down a lot better if there was a way to take out the prequals :p

What do you think? Baseless rumour? Idea with potential? Lucas totally lost it??

(for the record, I still prefer the KotOR plot to episodes IV - VI, but still...)

EDIT: sorry, forgot to paste the link...

Absolutely baseless speculation and fearmongering. Whilst I'm not the most ardent supporter of George Lucas, I would have to say that such a thing would be below him. Also, he might not be in love with the original trilogy anymore, but face it, he is not stupid. Not THAT stupid.

Would be fun to see what happens if he retcons his franchise into oblivion. Actually, more like into what oblivion is to what oblivion is to what oblivion is to us.

Never was a fan of the franchise, but it makes me sad when they get butchered like that, even so.

I doubt even Lucas would do that. Still, I had hoped the prequels had been the last of it. And doing it all over means more toy sales and ARRRRGH I'M DOING IT NOW TOO!

Seriously though, I think this one is just a rumor and nothing more.

Have any links? I wish to share this with my friends and create nuclear warheads of pure butt hurt!

On one hand, this is pure insanity... (if it is in fact true) Lucas would literally be killing the Star Wars franchise as a story, and completely turning it into a "setting". (Much like Warhammer 40k. Take it's cannon with a grain of salt.) If even a setting, as it'll be so butchered that might not even hold up. (Can't have Warhammer 40k without The Emperor.)

It's so crazy, that it's pure genius. I want to help destroy a franchise anyway I can. Just to see the super nova go pop. (Also because fuck bioware, those money grubbing whores... Without Star Wars, they are nothing.)

Source? But yeah probably baseless, although saying that I really wouldn't put it past him at this point. If this is true then is it any wonder the fans hate him?

Lucas is well-known for trolling the Star Wars fandom. I wouldn't doubt if he deliberately started the rumor.

I like the idea of the original movies to become a single trilogy again and the new stuff just to do whatever it was that it did before. The new films were set up so poorly that it actually didn't feel right for them to turn out as they had to.
Also, the idea is so stupid that it could actually be from George Lucas himself. It still souns slike a rumour tough.

I'm going with the others on this thread, that sounds very unlikely considering how large the Star Wars universe is. Creating an alternate universe for more stories seems redundant when you literally have an entire galaxy to explore. That said, if it did happen it wouldn't be to deliberately erase IV - VI, but rather to make an alternate time-line to those films exploring other possibilities.

.....Why the heck would a group of Bounty Hunters kill the man who would probably fund them immensely during the reign of the Empire?

Wait wait wait.....didn't Georgey boy announce the other week that he was utterly washing his hands of Star Wars and had no intention of making any more SW content? I mean I had heard of the live actions series, but I thought ------

The only public statement Lucas has made is that he is taking his ball and going home and will never come out to play Star Wars again because he is an egotistical crybaby who doesn't like it when people point out he did something stupid.
:p yeah, looks like someone already mentioned this. But yeah, I thought dirty ol' Lucas was done with SW to begin with.
