He not only shot first there, he pulled and fired one what by all appearances was a totally unarmed man. Only saved through his powers with The Force that he didn't believe in very much.
Oh and let's not forget the glove, that becomes central to fan fiction later down the road in the books! That glove was indestructible and contained the power of the force!

Actually, they may have shot at the same time

if you watch the footage very carefully you can see a tiny explosion in the dust of greedo's explosion right at the front ( heading towards han )
if that was a failed special effect it could well be that greedo was supposed to get a shot off as-well and they just ran with the shot they had film is expensive and it was a fine enough shot at the time
bear in mind this film gave birth to special effects and we don't have intimate details what went on on set
it is entirely possible, however unlikely that it's true

that 'could' be what lucas is referring to

that, or it's an outright lie ( i wouldn't be surprised at this point )

I don't think so, it's a robot arm with a glove over it same as any and he used the force to augment it's strength

far more rational, if you ask me starwars fans are a little air headed in general

I don't understand how thinking Greedo shot first makes the story better. Han Solo starts the saga as an anti-hero and through his trials becomes first a reluctant hero to finally a pure hero. It's called character development, remember that Mr. Lucas?

When I was younger, I was kind of confused about the whole Who shot first debate, and I wondered why it was such a big deal. Thinking about it now, I do think it's a little ridiculous how Greedo would miss Han at point blank effin' range. XD
And at the same time, Han was able to hit Greedo while aiming from under the damn table.

Am I the only one who thinks George is starting to sound like Kevin Costner in JFK?

"And if we go back and to the left you can clearly see that Greedo not only shot first but that Han missed completely. Greedo was obviously shot by Chewbacca from the grassy knoll."

Honestly, I don't care anymore. I have DVDs of the unaltered originals and that's all I need. George can say whatever he wants and to me it's just so much white noise.

Heres the thing. Everyone keeps saying how useless and stupid Lucas is. He is getting you all to think and talk about a 34 year old movie. All these remixes and shit get people to focus on these old ass movies, buy the special editions and original re-releases, buy merchandise and generally get you thinking about and spending money on Star Wars crap.

The mans a fucking genius if a bit of a troll.

This just in, George Lucas has NO RESPECT for the intelligence of his fans.

Guess what George: we just lost all respect for you, too. Go away now.
We 'just' lost it? That ship sailed about a decade ago.
I figure we still had it for him creating the trilogy in the first place. At least, I was keeping that in mind when I thought about him. Now that he's basically calling us all idiots to our face, that no longer matters.

Guys, why does this matter? Is it really so damn important whether or not Han shot the alien with a total of two lines before he was shot at? By the end of these movies, Han is a hero to the Alliance who proves himself a loyal friend. No matter how his character arc starts off, that's where he ends up. Even if he used to be a stone-cold killer, he certainly isn't by the end of Jedi. So why does it matter?

Just let it go.

Remember not too long ago when a new sound file was 'discovered' of the Moon Landing and it was discovered that Armstrong said "One small step for a man" etc? I wasn't alive in the 1970's but wasn't Star Wars one of the most technically advanced films of its time? I honestly don't know but what I do know is that every time they fired a laser in the film they made damn sure the audience knew every time a laser was shot by means of bright red (or green) beams of light and small explosions. I somehow ended up with two box sets of the original trilogy (ie: before the re-edits) and not once in the Cantina was there an explosion/ laser shot until Han pulled the Trigger.

I mention the Moon Landing because the word 'a' is easily missed between celestial bodies. A small explosion, a laser beam, a sound effect, it would be difficult as fuck to put into a movie only to have it edited to the point that everyone didn't notice it until later.

Well, at least we can still have our other truth, and nobody can take it away from us.

Cheney shot first.
I give you so many internets for that sentence. So many internets.

From the way the video looks, I don't even see how Greedo managed to get any shot out from that massive explosion that takes up the screen. It actually looks like Han made it first.

Ready this news post makes me realize that George Lucas' true calling was to work in the Soviet Bureau responsible for rewriting official history.

Just to put things into perspective: When the 'digitally remastered' Star Wars trilogy was announced, I was all happy giddy joy, until we actually sat down and tried to watch them. The insertion of digital noise far outweighed the fact that, finally, the film got 'cleaned up'. That awful CGI Jabba took them about a year to create, and it seriously messed things up.

So, some 15 years ago, we came to the conclusion that George Lucas might have been brilliant or just gotten lucky with what he did early on, aided by an exceptional staff... if, however, left to his own devices, he seemed more and more like an inverse Santa, with a main focus on selling toys. I think it's clear that Han Solo shot first. Trying to make it look otherwise without commentary is pretty bad already, but this whole web of... whatever really puts me off. I know it's hard to call it a day and wrap things up when recording music for release. I know it's really hard to put down the brush (or the tablet) and feel all 'done!' and finished. But what George Lucas is doing is alienating the people that already bought his stuff over, what, at least twenty years, and he hands the next generation the equivalent of redacted remakes, that do not fail to change canon or history, and the scenes he messes with will just never be the same again, without really making any more sense.

I own the Indiana Jones 1-3 on a multitude of formats, and at least the very first VHS ones should be replaced anytime soon. Can't do it, though. What if Lucas messed things up there? What if Indiana Jones 4 wasn't the only idiotic stunt he pulled of there? As with "Greedo shot first!", I believe Indiana Jones 4 was an effort into political correctness gone terribly wrong. That, and the whole alien angle turned twenty years of considering Indiana Jones to be a splendid franchise into poop-flavoured hot chocolate. Not something you'd want to swallow, not something you'd want to be seen with. Pity, that.

Okay, I hate to explain the joke, but let's go.

Stan Lee, maker of Spider-Man and other comics. You know him. He's always putting himself inside of his Spider-Man movies. And then...he more recently helped create an anime...in which he is constantly found in a coffee shop where the main character works part-time. My friends and I view this as Stan Lee trying to remain relevent as time marches on, much like our boy Lucas, but it's time to pass the wand to the next man.

Cafe of Broken Dreams is, of course, a Fallout 2 reference in which characters from the previous game somehow appear as an easter egg, drinking and remembering their past accomplishments.

I'd love to, but Lucas won't release the fucking undoctored original versions of the films on DVD.
Except for this:

I'm really tired of the debate about this. Just enjoy whichever version of the film you prefer, people! Let George go off and do whatever he wants with his franchise.
I would, but now he's telling me I'm remembering things wrong. He's gone from editing the DVDs to wanting to edit the neurons in my head. I'm sorry, but this "Ministry of Truth, Skywalker Ranch division" garbage has to stop.
While he's claiming "you're remembering wrong" it doesn't mean he can do anything about it appearing otherwise in the original release. Just enjoy the freaking movies. Yeesh.
