A ban on these games wont do much anyway. The German government might like to think they can ban these games, but the German people will just go to Austria to buy their games...

As living and gaming in Germany, this exact discussion and the practise of banning games for some reasons that never go unexplained (and i mean banned, not mature under the counter stuff, more forbidden going to be destroyed style) is going on since my first 5-Disk set of Doom II. (and thats a bunch of Years now)

As a realistic viewpoint, it never changed what or when i gamed. For example as MortalKombat II arrived in EU on the SNES it got banned within a few months in Germany. So i took a half-hour drive to our dutch neighbours and bought it in an Intertoys shop without even being questioned.

I would be happy for once if games weren't used as "cover-up" for a lot of other political downsides, and besides we have election soon.

For the petition i hope it makes impact (sure i signed), because getting nearer to the election some stupid politicians here are bound to use it as a "look, we sure do something"-Bonus.

But however this ends I#m not afraid of missing anything (or any game).

1. Live in Canada already, love it here.
2. No good games.
Just so you know, the games on the index aren't actually banned, they just can't be advertised and you won't find them in the stores. It's still perfectly legal to import them(doesn't have to be from far away, you can get all games from Austria and Switzerland).
Oh. I see.

Germany is so paranoid about Nazis and violence that they're already going down that road banning video games.
They're so parnoid about the nazis that they are trying to remove things they view as "undesirable" in their society?

Oh the irony!
