An overreaction in mho, the times I've been paintballing, I've never considered it to be causing any kind of dehumanisation or giving me a violent urge to kill, and I can't think that it possibly would... I mean, it's paint...

Any thoughts?

Wow. In response to a school shooting?

I don't know if anyone else here has ever both played paintball and used a real gun, but the similarities are shockingly small.

Lame Germany, very lame. I thought you were better than that.

This is crazy stupid.
Another sensationalist knee-jerk reaction with a band-aid solution that doesn't even touch on the underlying problems. This is the equivalent of: Oh man, a guy went on a crime spree with a baseball bat! Let's outlaw whiffle bats (Google it if you don't know what they are)!

I feel bad for all the players in Germany. It's a great game.

Paintballs don't even hurt. Yes I have been shot three times with 2 different paintball guns and it actually made me laugh cause they worked perfectly and yet they tickled. This a bit of a over reaction.

Not surprising really, they censor violence in video games already.

But to be honest it is Germany, of course they are going to knee-jerk against anything that might lead them down that dark path again...

How much they hurt isn't in question. Is it even legal to OWN a firearm in Germany?

Well thats sad, but I can see where they are coming from. Since they think pressing buttons to shoot guns turns you into a killer, a game where you use a "real" guns must be a tool of the devil, even if the guns only shoot paint.

Wow, really? Overreacting much?

Germany sucks. And they were just barely recovering from the whole World War 2 thing, when they sucked a lot.

They really must hate paintball huh? Looks like they're blaming paintball on their problems. And now they're going to wipe out paintball. Almost as if it's a, I don't know, Holocaust against paintball? Sound familiar maybe?

Germans must love blaming their problems on completely harmless things and then brutally eleminating those innocent things. I guess it's a cultural thing.

You been hurt by a frozen paintball? Or those aluminum-coated ones they sell now? Those hurt.

Also, apparently there are police-issued paintball guns/paintballs, and the paintballs are filled with some type of gas. I think tear gas, but wouldn't place money on that. Citizens can't [legally] get those, but they exist, and I'd assume hurt...

Lord! I hate when people do this. Whenever something violent happens involving minors, people immediately look for the easiest thing to blame for it. Whether it be video games, rock music or panitball. Insead of passing the blame around, why not look into the why this kid felt the need to shoot up the school? There is a deep pysological problem at work here.

This is very sad news indeed. The article said that families want guns banned, believing banning guns will prevent this from ever happening again. Now this is truly a horrible event, but banning guns won't stop it from happening again. My friend made an interesting point that proves why. Criminals are going to commit crimes. If someone is insane enough to murder people with guns, that person is going to acquire a gun and use it whether guns are illegal or not. Essentially, the logic is that criminals break the law, and or going to have guns and use them for crimes whether they are legal or not. So all banning guns does is prevent law abiding citizens from being able to use them to defend themselves from said criminals. Yes I am an American, so before anyone can jump all over me for being "another gun-crazed American" let me say that I do not have any guns in my house, unless you count the bow I have in the garage, though I do agree with the aformentioned logic.

Sadly common sense is anything but common anymore. a school shooting? find the deep psychological issues that obvious must be there? that's way too logical, I know we will scapegoat and ban something relatively harmless.

Paintball encourages killing? Last time I checked it was spheres of colorful fluid being shot out of plastic guns at padded opponents. Come on Germany.

Nuh uh! Doing anything requires thought, and people could think about killing people! Banned!

...Let us hope it never gets that bad.

If you ever get hit with a frozen paintball in the neck, come back and say that...

Kind of...retarded. I mean, several armies have looked into trying to recruit paintballers, but found that they're not that much different from anyone. I mean, violent people will naturally be attracted to violent video games, violent paintballing (frozen balls, as someone mentioned), and violent acts. The real thing to do is identify and 'cure' these people before any social problems push them to the edge. But oh shit no, we'll just find a new scapegoat every couple of years to put a band-aid over the boo-boo that is human stupidity, while the real problem grows.

Okay, how the hell is laser tag 'violent'? I've played with tons of different people before, from different genders and age groups. The only violent thing that ever happened was when a friend jokingly tackled another friend.
