Would be a great win for the arms lobby*. No change with the big guns but ban something only few care about.

But it's not gonna happen. Even police is against that as you can hardly control it and they got better things to do than chase paintballers. Also there's no relation to paintballs and hard crimes.
It's a nice, populistic demand. Makes them seem to be taking action, but without really digging at the roots of the true problems. Don't forget, it's a vote year.

* Germany is the third biggest arms exporter in the world (after US and China). Now that should really be something to worry about.

Hm... German guy here. Had not heard about that yet. But read up on that. I find it highly unlikely that this will get through... but they surprise me sometimes.

But we really have to do something against all this insanity and burocracy in this country (and the world). It is sometimes like living in in a surreal sci-fi satire...

Wasn't laser tag already banned?

Anyway, they think its violent because the objective is to 'kill' your opponent, in paintball you don't have to.

Okay, first off, that law isn't passed yet and more often than not such laws get shot down by the Bundesrat. So let's wait a while.
I don't think this law will be passed.
There were similar populist propositions when Erfurt happened concerning videogames that didn't pass, either.

Also, violent videogames are not banned, they just cannot be sold to people under the age of 18 and no advertising is allowed for them. The censorship is much worse than the so-called "banning" but it's still legal to get UK/US imports when you're older than 18 which is what I usually do. So no real problem there, either.

Third: Gun-posession is only allowed for certain people, such as police officers, soldiers, watchmen, hunters, people who use them recreationally in a gun club...

And lastly, the biometric authentification is a really good idea. Might help to avoid a stupid kid just taking his father's gun out of the nightstand...

Don't overreact, people...

But then, school shootings have nothing to do with paintball.
It would just be an easy thing to make them look as if they're doing something. Getting to the roots would be much harder and more costly. So rather say you wanna ban paintball and look great in press.

Why do they want to use biometric (fingerprint) locks? most of the current ones are crap, mythbusters broke through one with an ink finger print on a piece of paper and that's not exactly hard to think of is it? you might as well just get a big padlock, it would be easier and more secure.

Completely ridiculous and not based on anything. There isn't even the slightest correlation between playing paintball and the school shooting that has happened there. With this argumentation they could just as well forbid violent video games or action movies. Why won´t politians there look at the facts or at least think rationally instead of just trying to win voters...

But anyway, where am I ranting about. This law probably won´t be accepted anyway, at least I hope so.

What the hell ? Paintball doesn't incur thoughts of violence of dehumanise people ? It's a game (FPS) just in real life, but because your shooting paint pellets at your friends you apparently want to kill people ? In that case I'll be back later after going out on a murder spree.
/small rant

I like paintball, just some friendly competition and if you get into it it's a rewarding experience.

This is crazy stupid.
Another sensationalist knee-jerk reaction with a band-aid solution that doesn't even touch on the underlying problems. This is the equivalent of: Oh man, a guy went on a crime spree with a baseball bat! Let's outlaw whiffle bats (Google it if you don't know what they are)!

I feel bad for all the players in Germany. It's a great game.
Actually, it's more like:
"Drunken Man Stabs Woman, German Officials Outlaw Liquids and Pointy Objects."
Those gosh dern youngers ain't taking my pencil away from me!! So whot if ay sherpen it withe knive!?

So the senseless scapegoating continues(at leasts its not video games this time). When will people realize that there is no simple cause/solution to such a complex issue as random violence?

Hope this law fails(but don't know enough/anything about German politics to be able to predict the outcome)

They really must hate paintball huh? Looks like they're blaming paintball on their problems. And now they're going to wipe out paintball. Almost as if it's a, I don't know, Holocaust against paintball? Sound familiar maybe?
Don't go there.

On topic: Man, every time there's a school shooting people do one of two things:

1) Try to ban/restrict guns [doesn't work]

2) Blame Video games [not their fault]

Honestly I'm not all that surprised that they're going after painball. But you can only wonder what they're going to ban next ( waterguns maybe)

Oh no!

What'll happen to the corporate team-building excercises?

The lack of teamwork will ruin Germany's large businesses!

Wow, really? Overreacting much?

Germany sucks. And they were just barely recovering from the whole World War 2 thing, when they sucked a lot.

Germans must love blaming their problems on completely harmless things and then brutally eleminating those innocent things. I guess it's a cultural thing.
thats pretty damn offensive. you just compared the outlawing of paintball to the killing of millions of jews. im not agreeing with outlawing paintball, but jesus fucking christ, your clearly a moron. brutally eliminating those innocent things? there just banning it, not killing paintballers. how dare you compare the current german government, and attitudes of an entire nation, to Nazism?

Oh look kids: water balloons teach you how to throw grenades! BANNED.

RISK teaches you how to wage war! BANNED.

Monopoly teaches you how to be a buisness tycoon! MADE INTO NATIONAL SPORT.

Hooray for sarcasm. Being serious here: this is just plain silly.
