You'd never guess, huh?

Looks disturbing, dark, and obviously about racial tensions and maybe some racist murder cult or pure-blood inbreds or something, right?

Yeah, apparently not. My roommate saw it last night and said it was hysterical. Apparently its campy and cheesy as fuck, like an Evil Dead movie, with obvious tongue-in-cheek moments making fun of horror movies. The black dude doesn't die first, it really is a boyfriend in the bushes just trying to scare you, the person in the chair facing away from you is actually totally fine and just listening to music, etc...etc...

Now I'm actually kinda' curious.

But moreover this is kinda' a marking bust. Nothing in any of trailers makes it seem anything but a grrr grim dark serious tense uncomfortable horror movie, the likes of Paranormal Creepers or Its dark and what's that in the corner IV or the ever terrifying Dolls with decidedly un-Doll like characteristics. But apparently its a dark-comedy.

I don't know dude, it was pretty obvious to me that it was (at least partly) a comedy from the trailers I've seen. Especially the one where he goes under hypnosis and is acting all wavy

But after seeing that long trailer it looks dope as fuck so now I gotta go see it. Thanks!

You didn't get the comedy vibes from the trailer? I sure did.

Although I've actually heard conflicting things from people who've seen it. Some say it's a campy but conventional thriller, some say it's comedy satire.

Happily, they all said it was fucking great.

It's a thriller and horror movie with elements of comedy in it.

I suppose these guys are far better at summing things up than I am. But then again, they do that sort of thing for a living.

For the short, short version: It's a horror film that is really, really well done.

It still has a 100% on rotten tomatoes with 130 reviews submitted. That's a pretty good feat.

I think it is Peele taking a sketch set up and doing it with a straight face. Basically what if one of their parody movies was real.

I think this will be more like Scream than Scary Movie.

Its directed by one of the guys from Key and Peele (I honestly forgot which one it was tho)

same dudes who made the entire movie about rescuing a kitten

that right there says its gonna be pretty funny
Hugo was directed by Martin Scorsese, but that doesn't mean that the movie is filled with people getting shot in the head and saying fuck a lot.
The Spy Kids movies and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl were directed by Robert Rodriquez, but that doesn't mean they are anything like the other Rodriquez movies Sin City, From Dusk til Dawn and The Faculty to name a few.
Just because a director is known for one type of movie does not mean that every movie they do will fill that genre.

That kitten movie may be the worst movie I have ever seen.

I thought it was a comedy too from the failed fist bump scene in the trailer. Like something is terribly, terribly wrong if a black man doesn't return a fist bump.

Count your blessings then, because Keanu was great.

According to Wiki, it class as comedy horror. Still it doesn't matter to me as I intend to try to watched it once it arrived in the Uk given to its good reviews so far.

So, its kinda like Tucker and Dale vs Evil then (a tale of a bunch of college kids going into the woods for a vacation when suddenly they are attacked by psychopathic hillbillies. Except they are actually just trying to help out and the students end up killing themselves by accident which reaffrims to the others that the hillbillies are serial killers)? It flips normal conventions on its head for comedic effect?

It's just more of the race-baiting, politically correct, "feel bad for being white, or else you're a racist", garbage that's flooded pop culture lately.

Can you imagine if it was reversed, and this was a movie about how scary black people look from a white person's perspective? A horror movie where blacks are portrayed as the cardboard cut out stereotypes the white characters in this movie are?
All the hipsters who are defending this movie now, would be marching down the street foaming at the mouth and calling anyone who liked it a racist!

Racism is still racism when it's black people doing it, and it's just as ignorant.
You, of course, realize that Hollywood has for decades coded non-white people as monsters and horror movies in particular have a history of rote "they didn't listen to the conservative worldview and [x] now they're dead"? You don't seem too upset previous horror movies pushed an agenda.

And you do, of course, realize that wealthy white people are segregating themselves from other social and ethnic groups and are the beneficiaries of generational wealth?

But fuck it right, the only movie allowed to touch on society is American Sniper.
