But I agree with you about co-op. It's uneeded, unwanted, unnecessary and a waste of developer time and resources when they could make a great single-player experience. But it's an EA game....it HAS to have multiplayer!
Edit for being stupid.

In this case, I'm so happy EA exist! They might not get the "best company" reward, but at least they understand that games are meant to be played together with friends. If you don't like it, then there are shitloads of games where your only option is to play all alone.

Dead space one was pretty good, I enjoyed that and it kept be fairly tense and scared throughout.
Dead space 2 was much less scary. It was more actiony based but it still had it's moments and wasn't too bad.
Dead space 3 looks like it's gone full action. It could still be fun but it's defintly not a horror game anymore and I have no interest in it.

Speaking as someone who is a little pussy ***** at scary games, to the point where I tend to have to turn them off and take breaks, Dead Space was not survival or horror in the slightest.

When the enemies should be afraid of you and literally fall apart in front of you, it's not scary at all.

I've only played Dead Space 1.

Dead Space Scary is Bioshock Scary, you're alone set in a very dangerous place, it's shivering but not terrifying ala Silent Hill.

Dead space is not scary...BUT THAT'S OK

what worries me is one of those "your doing it wrong if you want to play on your own" scenarios...and cover based shooting

Read deeper. The co-op is not forced. In fact, there's two differing storylines, depending on whether you play co-op or alone. Alone, there is no second player, just like the previous Dead Spaces. It'll just be Isaac, dealing with his inner demons and borderline insanity.

Co-op however, will be Isaac doing all that, but with a companion who ISN'T insane. And I'm sure we know, that can only end well...

So yeah, be more irritated by the over abundance of action (even more so then DS2) and the wide open spaces more then the co-op, since that won't affect you at all if you play single player. I just pray they head underground into a derelict spacecraft nice and quick once all the outside galavanting is over.

hooooooooooooooooooooooooooold on a second there

says who?..what games?

you can't just put a big old "standard" to apply to all games

games are meant to be played with freinds

games are meant to be played online 24/7

games are meant to be played in a room lit only by neon signs

games are meant to be played while hopped up on 10cans on energy drink and cocaine

games are meant to be played with your dog on your lap trained to be in charge of the space bar..

bullshit...if a game someone likes is changed for the worse then its unfortunate but "play something else" isn't an argument, its just a dumb thing to say

now will co-op ruin deadspace? that remains to be seen...for me only because (as I just posted) I don't want a "youre doing it wrong on your own" scenario

Its drop-in, drop-out Co-op that changes nothing about the story. You can play the entire thing in single player if you want.

My guess? Carver only exists as a figment of Isaac's imagination.

I thought it was pretty clear that it was my personal opinion when I started it all with "In this case, I am so happy EA exist". I enjoy great single player experiences but I enjoy playing with friends even more. Even SP games can be awesome fun in co-op just by throwing an extra player in there that can't start story, can't interact (much), etc.

Like in Fable 3 for example. The "visiting" player can't do much at all besides fighting and stuff. But that's fine, because it's still awesomely fun when you play as the "visitor" as long as you're playing with a friend.

Which is why co-op would have made Dead Space 1 & 2 even better (again, this is a personal opinion and does not reflect gamers as a whole), because when I was done playing my story, I wanted to team up with a friend. But no. Dead Space 2 even had multiplayer, but still no co-op.

Same goes for Mass Effect series, especially the third. After I completed the game I wanted a friend (or more) to take control of the people always being in the game with me. I would even join if I couldn't level up my character myself as my friend would level it up the way I wanted to anyway.

I honestly can't think of a SINGLE game that wouldn't be more fun with at least one friend. There are a couple of games which I want to experience alone - first - then play it with a friend.

And because of that, because in my opinion, ALL games are fun in co-op, which is why I said I think games should be played with friends.

I want to play all those "super awesome single player games which would suck if they added multiplayer" with friends. I want to play the Elder Scroll series with friends. I want to play The Witcher series with friends. I want to play Mass Effect, Assassins Creed and all the other SP-only games with friends. Because it would add so much to the game, especially replayabilty after you've completed it once by yourself already.

Anyway, "play something else" is an argument and a great one too. If you don't like [insert game here] then play something else. It's as easy as that. I do that with a lot of games.

Im suspicious of even co-op....I just feel like in the end its somthing taken away from single player...not saying I'm right or wrong but with the big "online" trend going along it makes me adverse to more of it ending up in my games

like..I wouldnt want the distraction of somone else while I'm playing Mass effect, for me thats a very solitary/personal experience

as for the "play somthing else" argument..I disagree, say my favorite game series was ruined because of some reason or another..its like "no! I want to play x game! I loves x game and there arnt many games that do the same thing for me!"

its better to think of it as "Aliens" rather than "Alien"

the scariest thing to happen in Dead space 2 is a big HAPPY SUNSHINE FACE jump scares you...

I agree, Mass Effect is a personal experience, but what I'm saying is that after I've completed the game, it would be awesome if a friend of mine could join in as one of the other characters I bring with me into every mission.

But yes, sometimes adding co-op could make the singleplayer "less great", but then just release it in a post-release patch, as DLC or expansion. I would gladly pay for being able to play co-op in for example Skyrim or Mass Effect.

Dead Space was never truly scary.

Not Amnesia scary, anyway.

If Amnesia is to games, what Alien is to film, then Dead Space is Aliens.

Tense, full of action, definitely a great experience, just not really that scary.
This ^^

The problem with Dead Space 3 is that while co-op sucks, here are my main complaints:

A. The partner isn't Ellie
B. The partner is space marine #300 (Master chief had an actual personality and meaning to exist, this guy looks like an asshole)
C. Shooting people that are operating guns
D. Much more oriented on being on the ice planet instead of in a big station
E. Less focus on using mining tools as weapons
F. Isaac is just "there" instead of the main focus

The creepiest was the baby in the washing machine

The most disturbing was the guy with his birds (Who I feel bad for)

I'm less upset by the co-op and more upset by the cover-based shooting and human enemies. I don't care about it becoming "less scary," as the series was never truly survival horror to begin with and I liked it just fine that way (Dead Space 2 is one of my all-time favourite games, in fact), but I do hate what it's poised to do to Isaac as a character. It's going to take one of the few action game protagonists that doesn't commit genocide on a daily basis and turn him into yet another generic badass who mows down scores of even more generic soldier dudes from behind bits of wall. That, and cover-based shooting is just boring as hell from a pure visceral satisfaction point-of-view. I'd only be truly pissed off at the co-op if it had an impact on the plot in any way (like having different endings depending on if you played solo or not), in which case, well... No loss I suppose. Dead Space 3 was dead to me any way the moment I saw Isaac shooting at a guy from behind a chest-high wall in the trailer.

Evidently there are a lot of ITGs in this thread.

Dead Space and DS2 were scary if you immersed yourself in an environment where an entire ship/colony full of people has been reduced to semi-mindless killing machines made of cobbled together body parts.

I will grant, however, that the scariest parts were in cutscenes (the one guy beating his head against a wall until it splits open, the workers butchered behind class in front of you, Stross, the eye machine, your own madness creeping in, etc.)

Dead Space is an interesting sci-fi genre that has potential. I'm afraid its already spent its nickel, though.

Oh fark that guy. If he hadn't brought his stupid birds to work, I wouldn't have had to kill hundreds of his oversized killing-machine pets. :)

It wasn't his birds, it was the crazy AI lady who was annoying. Also, necromorphs were not his pets....

I haven't actually watched Aliens (I know, I know, I should fix that) so I don't quite get the comparison... but I guess it's really not for me, then. As a TPS, I feel it's average. But I just don't find any of it even mildly scary.
while Alien was atmosphereic and scary, Aliens was an action movie...BUT also really intense and frantic

which is Dead spaces pretty much, its frantic and intense but not scary
