I haven't built a new computer for about four years, seems like the time to get a new one. Problem is, I haven't been following up on whatever the new shit is since I when got the old one, so I have absolutely no idea what to get.

I reasonably have $1000, but I could fudge more if need be. So, any pointers would be awesome.

What do you want to do with it? Any manufacturer preferences? Special requirements?

EDIT: Do you have a case or power supply you can reuse? DVD-ROM? Anything salvageable? Do you need a new screen, mouse or key board?

I don't need a new screen/mouse/keyboard/speakers/whatnot, but the tower and everything inside is going to someone else, so have to start from scratch there.

Gaming PC, primarily, and I really don't know what manufacturers to look for, I don't even really know the difference between Nvidia and Radeon cards at the moment.

Don't have time right now but I'll make a build when I get back from school.

Quick question; do you need an OS?

Not an AMD/ATI fan anymore, but yah, Kabutos has got it covered pretty good.

Nice, another Corsair lover.

Well I cannot be bothered with bad website that do not allow you to link a complete package but I guess you are used to such a standard.

I tried making a SB build and played around with different mobos and PSUs but thanks to Win7 and fluctuating prices, the lowest I could reach was around $1,040.

The 955 is still a great CPU, and its the BE too so if OP wants to buy a good HSF he can easily overclock it.

EDIT: Could probably switch the 6850 for a 6950 if you want more power.
