getting a new ps3 questions about switching the hard drive

So i plan on buying a ps3 slim because mine is starting to break my question is can i pop the hard drive from my ps3 fat into my ps3 slim with no complications? because i want to keep all my savegames. Has anyone done this and succeeded without any compatibility problems? thanks

I'm not quite sure, but couldn't you use as USB or something to transfer the files over? Again, not sure if that would work.

i have heard it asks you to format it when its put into a different ps3 is there anyway to get around this i really dont want to lose my save files

It will format it. The best solution would be to copy your saves onto a usb flash drive. But some saves are copy protected. As far as I know there's no way to transfer those saves. You could look for saves on the Internet and work with those but I'm not sure you'll find any. Search the web.

You can backup your entire hard drive onto an external hard drive or just copy across the saves.
Both the fat and slim models use the same 2.5inch hard drives.

Back Up your data to a external HD or flash drive, with my 57-60gb of stuff it took maby 4hours, some saves wont copy, but then transfer to new ps3 with the restore function.

You'll have to transfer your saves to an external hard-drive or usb because the playstation will ask you to format the hard drive when you transfer it to the new PS3, but as someone else said some saves are copy protected and the only solutions there are to either connect the two playstations via an ethernet cable and transfer all the data straight or get 3 months of playstation plus which has cloud saving and enables you to copy all your save data to thier server to use on another ps3.
