Spend the extra fifty, you'll thank me. Your gonna spend some money anyway why not go for the better product. If your getting the console and a couple of games 50 aint so much.
50$ can be a couple of games vs. space you'll probably never need.
I agree with this quote, and this is why I"m still trying to make my decision.

Right now I don't have the money, but I will hopefully get the cash soon. I'm at least happy to know that I should be happy with whatever choice I make. Knowing my luck, they will announce something better by the time I get it.

if you're gonna spend money on a console, you may as well buy the best you can (provided money isnt a huge constraint)

go for the 320gb version, you'll be surprised how quickly the hard drive space gets eaten up

games wise? killzone 2, inFamous and valkyria chronicles are givens, and if you're into mecha based shooters try out armored core 4 answer as well

I didn't really mean to troll, I was just kinda making a joke, not trying to go all fan boy Im just not a fan of the PS triple. Plus I thought it was a clever joke.
Oh it's alright. It wasn't in bad taste or anything.

OT: I think I'm gonna go for the 320GB model. It may take me longer to get a couple games, but hopefully it will be worth it in the long run.

If the options are:
160 GB for $300
or
320 GB for $350

Let me present that another way:
1 for 6
or
2 for 7

It's dead simple: 320 GB

Except it isn't. You may be getting every megabyte cheaper, but the model is still more expensive, and if you will never use that extra space, it's 50 dollars lost.

The cheapest AKA the smallest, you can just buy a computer hard drive if you fill it up.

You mostly do with it what I do (except play the same games) and I have a 60 gig. (I bought a 40 and got a 60 ... I was a happy chappy!) Which has never been filled up.

I find that my 80gb model has more than enough free space.
I'd recommend buying the 160gb model. And spend the extra 50 quid on a 500gb hard drive.

Well, I'm not the best person answering to this, as I've just built a dozen or so PC's for myself and several other people and never had a console. All I know about how much space is consumed on the hard disk of PS3 is basically from this thread and so far it seems OP is storing
a bit of music on the console, as well as games need space.

It's a much better deal by far to buy a 320 GB version, and I'd suppose one will be rather safe than sorry. It might be 50 USD gone to waste with the other 160 GB you get with it, but I'd still go with it. I certainly would buy the 320 GB version, and actually if it is possible to replace the hard disk drive with another (as I noticed someone stating), I'd buy the 160 GB version and then a 1 TB hard disk, for 60 EUR or so, to replace that. Considering one actually does need space and can use it a bit like on the computer. Why would they be selling a 320 GB version if you'd never need any more than 160 GB at tops?

Well, it all comes down to preferences and needs.
Personally, I own a 40 gb. While I dont use my ps3 for music, I do have a LOT of Rock Band DLC, and a fair collection of games.

I have had this 40 gb for 3 years, and haven't filled it yet.

I've decided to finally jump back into this gaming generation, but this time, I going with the console that doesn't have a severe failure rate.

But which model should I choose? 160GB($300) or 320GB($350)?

Here is what I am going to use my PS3 for:
-Music Player (For all of my music. Around 1000 songs or more.)
-Bluray Movies (I probably won't download movies, I prefer owning the disc)
-Gaming (Well duh)

I plan to purchase LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, Rock Band games, etc.

I know that lbp and mnr have tons of content, but I don't know how much space they take up.

As for rock band, I will buy several songs for it. When I owned a 360, I purchased around 200 songs, which took up about 8 GB.

So could anyone tell me which model is for me?

edit: Also, any game suggestions for when I start out?

another edit: I also want several psone classics.
I think the 320 gigabyte ps3 is coming out in the US(idk where your from), but I have a 250 gig ps3 and it's good for me on content. That and you can replace the hard drive on your ps3 (it's supported by sony so no warranty issue). So it really doesn't matter to be honest (I plan on getting a 1TB with good speed at one point).

Buy any model so long its not the 20GB model because your PS3 will eat that in no time at all especially if you plan to have a lot of games with the system.

So I would get either get the 40GB or 60GB Phat PS3 as they are much cheaper and they look better under your TV than the slim one's do. Plus that amount of space is all you will ever need really.

That sounds promising. When I had a 360, I never installed games, but I had a ton of music on it and a lot of rock band songs. Plus some downloadable games. This was on a 20GB HD. It was only around 3GB after 2 years.

So with all the words said here, and with advice from my friends. I changed my mind. I'm going with 160 GB. I may need more space eventually, but then i will just upgrade the HD.

Also, i could use some games, and that extra 50 bucks could get me them.

Thanks for all the help.

Oh and I have to ask, what is the failure rate for the PS3s? are they way more reliable? I can't afford an extended warranty right now.
