Getting annoyed with people. Quickly.

Well lets see where I begin. Id like to start this post off by saying I harbor no hate toward any other country or people from said country. That is all.

To begin my fantastic adventure let me tell you what I was doing, I was playing WoW, just leveling a character. Nothing special at all. I ran a dungeon with a few people and about half way through I needed to use the restroom. So I did and promptly came back. Shortly after an item drops, I roll, lost it. I did the /sigh emote and said "Aw man". As I was typing out "Just messing, grats" to the person who won. The healer(Who was apparently British) pops in and calls me out on being "AFK for half the instance". Welp I proceeded to try and plead my case about going to the restroom and only being gone for about.. 5 minutes. This turned into her telling me I was doing something called "Whinge", when I said I didnt know what it meant I was called an 8 year old and stupid.

She linked a definition(The only way she could have linked it instantly was if she had a macro for it.. for others that didnt know it). I noticed it was a British word and I replied with "Excuse me for not being British". She then said "I was playing the ignorant American Card, and that 'Im American and dont need to know words'"

How am I, an American, suppose to know a British term? I dont watch BBC, ive never gone to Europe. I have no hate for other countries, yet the moment I dont know something im "An Ignorant American"? When did I say I didnt want to learn things? This is truly why im not liking ANYONE anymore. American or otherwise.

I know that involved WoW alot, but I really didnt feel like it was a gaming topic.. so.. yeah. What does everyone think. I really dont try to come off as the typical "Ignorant American". I do try at least.

Secondly I'd just ignore it. People make up stupid names for crap all the time. I don't even know what that word means. Those people are called dicks and everyone knows what that means.

I think this is just of case of someone being an elitist asshole. I wouldn't expect anyone to know a regional word or turn of phrase. That'd be like calling you something nasty in Chinese and calling you ignorant (as a pejorative, instead of actually ignorant, which simply means you don't know). Just because it's English doesn't mean you should know what it means. Hell, I have no idea what it means, I'm not even American and my English is far better than most people. However, not being British, I have no idea.

I don't think you're coming off as an "ignorant American" so much that she's coming off as an "elitist *****". Just saying.

Agreed, I just kinda wanted some peoples opinion on it. Once I was called ignorant I just said "Forget it, good luck" and left. I didnt feel like getting a head ache over it.

I suppose this is still kind of dwelling on it, but as I said, I wanted to see peoples opinions.

I'm not saying you should have automatically know it. And the other person sounds like a *****. But knowing some other countries random phrases is good sometimes. Plus isn't whinging self explanatory?

Yeah, whining/whinging is self explanatory. But, ive never been called a "Whinge". It wasnt "Dont Whinge about it" just "DOnt be a Whinge" which confused me. And I try to know phrases from other places but I dont like being called ignorant for not knowing one or two.

Yeah. I really dislike online gaming communities generally. I don't mean to say there aren't great people out there, but I find there to be an overwhelming amount of pig-headed-imbeciles who think they can get away with being impolite due to the anonymity of the internet. And well, that's just the thing, they DO get away with it because of this.

It's because of this, that despite me greatly enjoying a variety of MMO's, I find the player base in 95% of the games I've played to be pretty darn intolerable. This has ultimately resulted in me taking advantage of every opportunity that lets me get away with playing solo (despite being multiplayer for a reason).

Mind you, I've had wonderful experiences with other players, be it one or many, but regretfully they are seemingly few and far between .
