Getting Back into the Mages Guild in Oblivion

Long story short: I accidentally killed a fellow mage because he walked into one of my arrows right as I fired it. I got kicked out and am now having a hell of a time finding all of the stuff I need to buy my way back in, specifically vampire dust.

My question to all of you: Is there an easier way to obtain it than just wandering the world looking in random caves, forts and mines hoping to discover a vampire hideout? I've looked in almost every shop in every city and no ones sells it that I am aware of.

Any help would be appreciated.

Vampire dust isn't sold in shops at all. Really, the only way to get some is to find some Necromancers or find the Vampire Caves.

Pretty much ^ but have you also thought about loading a save before you accidentally murdered one of your fellow mages?

I would've reloaded, except I didn't even realize I had killed the guy until after I had killed the person we were after, saved and went back to finish the quest. That's when the guy told me I was kicked out. I technically haven't even finished the quest yet because of all this.

What makes this situation even more frustrating is that I'm also a vampire. The guy I have to speak with about getting the cure is the same guy who kicked me out of the Guild and all I can talk to him about is getting back in, so I'm stuck as a vampire until I can get back into the Mages Guild.

You playing on the 360 with GOTY Edition? There is still an un-patched dupe glitch on it, you find one vamp dust and you can make it ay number you want.

Either that or check UESP.

Could have done the skingrad vampire cure quest, kill two birds and all that.

Horrible quest though. Remember having such fun trying to steal grand soul stones from the mages guild without being spotted(Seriously those NPCs had xray vision I swear!). I think in the end I reloaded before I was made a vampire, because although I'd gotten all 5 stones, the quest bugged and wouldn't recognise I had them.

I had the same problem though with being expelled from the mages guild. I accidentally killed a mage during the thieves guild questline, but I didn't bother to reload as I didn't think it would affect anything(He was out in the middle of no where, how would they know he was dead!). Course after it was too late to reload, I'd found out that the mages were telepathic and they knew that I'd killed him, thus expelling me. Was too long ago for me to remember how I got back in, as it was back when the game first came out, and I've never made the same mistake again.

Things are good now! I'm currently on the Mehrunes Dagon DLC quest and I have found enough vampire dust that I can FINALLY get back into the mages guild and start the vampire cure quest as well. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!
