Hopefully we get an Harvest Moon like romance system, in stead of a Fable like one.
that would be the best, something to work for, i am fully into this idea.

I've been loving this idea for skyrim, and it will really make me more immersed, imo. This will however bring a new meaning to my gaming and i will find my real self with less chicks than a cat locked inside a deadman's apartment complex looking out into a chicken farm.

I swear i'm the only one who's optimistic about them actually using more voice actors + this. Means they're trying to make NPC's likable again.

World Exclusive! Dovahkiin speaks out!

In a recent interview, Skyrim saviour the Dovahkiin himself, revealed his reasons for undertaking the many perilous quests that lead to his eventual success. Many had believed the stout warrior was guided by destiny. Loyalty to his country and the late Emperor were also common theories. Some few even believed he had done it for fame or gold. But the Black Horse Courier has learned the truth from the noble warrior himself: "I had to do something" he said, "to get out of the house."

- Ra'jiradh, Urjabhi and Hassiri.

If it works, Yay, if it doesn't, you don't have to use it. If its not something you want to do, don't.

Fable's style was just one way of doing it, I'm sure Bethesda will do it a different way.

And now you got me wondering: How will DIVORCES work in Skyrim?

Well, it's a nice detail I guess, but the thought of forming an attachment to one of those Bethesda NPCs horrfies me. I mean jeezuz, how often do I have to ask about rumors and the city I happen to be in before they marry me?

Is this going to add another useless 70 hours of running around in the game? Fuck.
70 hours of running? Oblivion had a fast travel system you know, it was Morrowind that forced you to walk everywhere (not that that's a bad thing, I liked it that way myself). In Oblivion you just select places on the map and then you're there.

OT: Sounds interesting, and I especially like the part about people accompanying you in dungeons. The Elder Scrolls games have always been kind of lonely, storming through countless dungeons by yourself. Companions added a lot to Fallout 3 and New Vegas, so hopefully they will here too.

I'm excited. As I said above, anything is an improvement over the empty shells that are Oblivion's NPC's.

Hmm. Maybe theyll make a very likeable character who will happen to be of the opposite sex as me and i will develop the same feelings for her that i developed for That-Asari-Chick-Whose-Name-I-Cant-Remember-Anymore.
A little Hanky-panky between the occasional crime-spree/mass murder/Fetch-X-Quest might make the game more interesting.

With a Summon Clanfear spell and an alibi. How else?

I think "irreconcilable differences" is going to be a tough one to prove...

"He doesn't understand me!"

"She keeps running off to kill Dragons, I have needs!"

If there is the prospect of divorce, would there be marriage counselling too?

Glorious, simply glorious. *gives over internets*

As for the topic, if it doesn't suck, I'll be fine. If it does suck... I guess I will be a swinging single like in the last game.

Yeah, Oblivion often felt like an afterlife where I was sent to for being bad. Everyone has the same stilted dialogue, forced smiles, and hollow eyes. It felt like I was the only one alive as they hardly recognized my existence. This marriage thing should help.

As long as there is a bit of substance to it (unlike in Fable), I'm all for.

I dont really care, i'll prolly only do it either just to see if its better than fable, or for role playing purposes
I doubt it'll actually be that interesting though, unless you can marry NPCs who arent just random people off the street, and actually have names and unique dialogue

I wouldn't mind them involving your family in the story, like Fable 2. However dragons plotting against your wife may be a little fat-fetched, maybe a side-quest of some sort.

I'd be a bit more worried if i got married in game and my husband starts having an affair while i'm off killing dragons...
If so you would have married the stupidest person in the game.

"Well, my magic and weapon using spouse is out killing a bunch of dragons and taking their souls.....so I guess I'll go cheat on 'em."

This presents two possiblities;

*It will add more depth to characters and allow for some interesting character development and interaction.

*It will be a tacked on feature that is useless and just adds some simple dialogue with no meaning.
You know what? This pretty much sums it all up right here. IF this feature actually adds depth to the characters (a deficiency that Oblivion can definitely be criticized for) then I'm 100% behind it. But if it comes off as just a tacked on, useless feature, I'll be disappointed with Bethesda for wasting their time with that, rather than adding more quests, dungeons, or the like...

If it were Bioware announcing this, I would be excited. Seriously, Bioware GETS companions and NPCs. Throughout games like KotOR, I love the dialogue, not only between myself and my companions, but between the companions themselves. If I have a video game love interest, I want to get to know their backstory during a deep, thoughtful conversation that reeks of best voice acting award nominations.
Bethesda on the other hand only ever seem to create each character for it'sown purpose. Sure, that's great, but it means that companions are only made to kill stuff and protect you and have no dialogue options other than that and "You're Fired!". Each NPC of a Bethesda game is only ever there to give a quest, help with a quest, sell you stuff or ruin your shit.
Bioware manages to fill their worlds with interesting characters - some of whom will follow you in your journey - while Bethesda merely fills it's world with characters and some super mutants that shoot at things that look human while grunting about how the weather is.

Stranger things can happen i guess.

Irreconcilable differences get sorted out with friggin' sword in the elder scrolls universe.
