Have you ever bought a new game and wondered "why am I playing this, I think I'm having fun, but couldn't I be doing something much more fun?" Tell me what games you think are the most innovative, creative, and most importantly, outrageously fun.

All the really innovative ones I liked are indy. There are really too many to choose from, but right now the one I'm devoting the most time to is Fraxy. [http://mokeron.hp.infoseek.co.jp/zg/fraxy_main.html] I think the generated AI and boss building stuff is really neat and enjoyable to work with.

EDIT: As for one I payed for, I guess Advent Rising had some fun psychic powers and level up features.

Psychonauts- innovated the platformer genre/new standard of fun
Warhammer Online- changed MMOs forever (hell even WoW changed up their game because of it)
Animal Crossing - never has piking weeds and doing chores been more addicting

Yes. Admittedly, it was the second playthrough of doom 3 when I thought this, but I thought it nonetheless, and promptly quit.

Jericho is the only game I've thought that and quit while still on the first playthrough, and probably less than half-way through.

Every free online MMO I've had that thought at some point, sometimes rather quickly. several that I payed for got a similar reaction.

Innovation does not always equal fun. I could make a game that is about tickling zombies. Just cause it is original does not mean it is good and vice versa. Blowing peoples heads off has been proven to be fun and if you are a new developer you want to make a game you know will sell to get some money flowing.

So you're saying WAR changed MMO's forever...and then go on to say that WoW changed because of it?
I think you're just a bit mixed up here.

Everyone's going to flame me for this, but the Wii was fun when it came out, and WarioWare Smooth Moves and even Wii Sports was outrageously fun with friends and booze. I've played the hell out of those games though, so it's hard to see why it was so fun before, but it really was fun for a while.

I thought Shadow of the Colossus was brilliant and innovative, I mean, it's just 16 boss fights, but it's really 16 environmental puzzles you had to solve in order to take out the colossi.
Braid was another great, innovative game, and it's short, yes, but it's really exactly the right length for what it is.
Back in the day, Sim City was innovative and fun because it was the first game that actually just gave you some of the game developer's tools and the game was you making your own game.

Yes! Exactly! Because everything in WAoR was thought up just for that game. Everything is original in it. It makes WoW seem like a total copycat. I mean, WoW even stole WAoR's interface...

Your logic ASTOUNDS me.

Oh Jesus Christ. Here comes the World of Warcraft Defense Brigade. Take it the fuck outside please.

Spore- It's stuff creator's are undeniably brilliant and the Sporepedia is the biggest case-file to support this. After an hour in that game, compared to an hour anywhere else, I will have something to show for it that is uniquely my own if I so wish. That's innovation at it's best in my humble opinion.

Stardust HD is incredibly amusing to me...I also like to watch my significant other play..haha. It's puuurdy.

I saw someone else posted Ikaruga. That game never gets old to me. It's still amazing (and freakin' hard).

War Online is awesome...I wish I had more time to play..but school and work kind of take priority ;)

I still think that there isn't a game genre that is obsolete.

There are plenty of games that just don't have any mainstream appeal that are quite awesome. Ikaruga? Awesome. Rez HD? Awesome. Radirgy? Awesome. World of Goo? Awesome. Europa Universalis? Awesome to the power of 50.

Part of the reason why I'm not really getting bored with games. I know there are plenty of game(type)s out there. Just takes a bit of digging.

I don't like to be a knee-jerk-fanboy much.. but Warcraft essentially ripped out everything but the still-beating heart of Warhammer and re-packaged it into their own game. And yes, WoW did steal from other MMO's in design aswell, that's what you do. You take the good you take the bad you sack the guy who took the bad and if another game did the good first, you rip it off and improve it, so fair game to both Blizz 'n Mythic. He is somewhat correct though in that WoW did do a few things very similiar to WAR when it was released; again, it was probably Blizzard facepalming and saying "Why didn't we do this! Implement it, stat!" and if it makes WoW a better game... ain't that great? ^^

I shall nominate Bubble Bobble, the cutest dragon pair game I ever played.

No ok I screwed up on that post sorry. I brought my own stake if you want to burn me.

Ever play a Warhammer table top game? Ever look at the Races? Ever play any Blizzard rts? notice any similarities in the IPs?
